Question for landlords: Allow a renter to mount a TV on the wall?

walls are drywall. He's hire someone to do it. I've never mounted a TV, so I don't know what the dismount process is. What do you think?

Definite no. Where are the wires going? Will they be there for years?

I'd say fine, but then amend the lease to reflect his obligation to remove all wires/ fix all holes and damage to pre-rental condition, and get him to sign it BEFORE he does it.

What if he agrees to keep all the wires outside the wall? What kind of damage can be done by mounting a TV?

Doesn't doing that make it a fixture to which you as the landlord then own?

Allow, since it's being done by a professional, as long as they agree to take it down and patch wall when they move out.

Note the good TV mounts are TV-specific, so it's likely of no use to future tenantes, that's why you should ask to have it taken down and walls patched after.

We let a tenant do this and just told him verbally he had to patch when he moved out. He did, well enough that I'd actually forgotten that we let him do it at all until I saw this post. He was an awesome tenant though.

If it's a drywall wall, you can patch it 100% so it becomes invisible, once the tenant leaves. In other words: there is no permanent damage. Obviously the tenant needs to pay for the patching, but if you have an agreement on that: why not.

Do make sure that you have the original paint available, to paint the patches.
