Hi--I'm looking for a high-quality day spa in MD or DC with well-trained massage therapists, aestheticians, etc.
Similar to Bliss or Elizabeth Arden, or some of the other good places in New York... Any place fit the bill? |
The spa at the Mandarin Oriental.... |
There is a Red Door (Elizabeth Arden) spa in Chevy Chase (DC). It is on Wisconsin Avenue a block or two below the friendship heights metro stop. |
Klinger in Chevy Chase is great, as is the Four Seasons in Georgetown. I do not consider the Elizabeth Ardens here to be up to par at all. |
I agree that the Red Door spas are hit or miss. I've found the one on Old Georgetown Road in N. Bethesda to be better then the one in Chevy Chase -- I did not like the one in Tysons at all. I second the vote for Klinger on Wisconsin Ave. Mandarin is great but ridiculously expensive! I've had good services at the spa at the Ritz in Tysons too. |
I go to the Chevy Chase Red Door all the time. They are either REALLY GOOD or REALLY not worth the price there. I'd recommend the guy who does cranial-sacral massage and Lien for manis and pedis. Natalya can't be beat for any sort of waxing. |
Red Door in Chevy Chase is a zoo, which makes it the opposite of relaxing. There have been individual technicians there who are great, but there is also a lot of turnover. In general I don't think DC is a great spa town. Mandarin is indeed nice though as a few others have noted. |
I'll chime in on the Red Door topic....I've been to Bethesda on Old Georgetown, Gaithersburg in the Kentlands, and Pentagon City.
I like Pentagon City the best. The one in Bethesda is good in terms of how they treat you, but the actual space leaves something to be desired. I've also gotten some waxing at the George Bacchus Salon in Potomac as a walk-in randomly. They recently re-did it and it's beautiful and they have always been super-friendly. I also like the O'Hair Salon in the Kentlands and find them very friendly. |
You'll never believe this one, but the best spa I've been to in this area is in a strip mall in King Farm.
Elizabeth Ardens here are HORRIBLE, Chreky is just gross, Mandarin and the Ritz in Tysons are both great and worth the price, but the price is steep. Anyway, Elaj Day Spa in King Farm--best facials, waxings and massages I've ever had--consistently. My SIL discovered it and I was a total sceptic the first time but have been a huge fan ever since. |
skeptic. Sorry.

OP here--
Thanks for all the info! |
