2024 Boys Private School Results /Game Schedules/ Commentary

Game of the year on Wednesday night in the DMV.

Too bad it’s down at Gonzaga as it’s a total pain in the ass to get down there, especially on a week night

Saw the final score …. Was it competitive?

DeMatha’s 1’s are very good however they lack depth compared to programs such as Gonzaga or Landon. They held La Salle, who is a top 25 team to 6 goals however their defense did not play well in their last two losses to Gonzaga or Landon. With Mitchell back as OC the offense has been night and day with production and goal scoring. Big one on Tuesday against PVI. Somewhat of a make or break game for the Stags.

Imagine if there were substitutions and let the 1 line rest? How does anyone know the depth when the depth never sees the field? That is offense and defense. Much better offense with Mitchell for sure.

Sounds about right because DM only plays certain kids even if hurt and worn down. By 4th quarter, they have nothing left.

Someone's going to have to define rec for me.

BLC is very successful, has paid employees and charges a lot of money to play in their programs. They then actively try to move good players and enthusiastic families into their more competitive club programs. They are separate but not really. I suppose the volunteer dad coaches makes them rec?

Silver Spring Warriors was started so Draley could build a program around his son. It's more like a couple of get togethers and then begging Next Level for players so they can field a team and blow out rec teams in awful SMYLA.

Talk to either Breslin and Draley and you get the same message. They want more field access for less money from the county and they want zero competition from anyone else remotely interested in growing the sport.

You obviously don't know Draley well or appreciate the amount of time and effort that went into setting up and maintaining the SS Warriors. Also if his son was the only reason - he could have considered a club program where they actually make money plus his son "graduated" from the program many years ago yet it continues.. so if that was his only purpose it would no longer exist. Anyone that wants to bash someone who sets up an amazing lacrosse program where there was none really needs to look at their own priorities or consider to volunteer themselves and learn a little about it..

I do know Draley and BLC and have volunteered - many times. It's amazing how a legitimate and true observation of why rec lacrosse stinks in the DC region gets turned around as some sort of personal affront to one entitiy.

Volunteering to give out oranges and bring a tent isn't enough to grow the game. If you want to really make a difference, the example to follow is stuff like this. https://www.fox5dc.com/sports/ravens-partnership-puts-girls-flag-football-front-and-center-in-montgomery-county-public-schools
This is a public/private arrangement and should be the model for the NLL, the PLL, BLC, SSW and any other org.

Hope GZ isn't overlooking GC today.

Why would GZ coach schedule GC and Landon in back-to-back games?

The Eagles play GC tonight and 24 hours later, turn around and play Landon.

Both games are at home.

You sure Silver Spring Warriors is a non-profit? I find no mention of their status on the web site and no record of them on pro publica or in a brief google search.

Simple, Gonzaga is the better program, with better coaching, better players, and better game plans. Unlike the bears, the eagles can handle two good teams in a row and still win both because they have a winning mentality and in general want it more.

John Draley is simply the best player in the DMV

Let’s say if Ryan Duenkel never got hurt everything would be about the cadets. Would be a fringe top 10 team in the nation and undoubtedly the best team in this region.

Its a known thing that Inside Lacrosse consistently under ranks Gonzaga and over ranks Landon so please don't use them. Cabell has connections within the Inside Lacrosse organization and thus Landon is always ranked higher than they deserve. Furthermore, Gonzaga head coach, coach King has soured many connections within the organization as well. So please we all know Gonzaga is going win tomorrow so stop propping up Landon.

I hope you aren't a Gonzaga homer as you are embarrassing your program.

Objectively speaking Landon has higher quality wins than Gonzaga and few bad losses.

Landon's best wins are likely Bullis, GP and Highland Park out of Texas.

Gonzaga's best wins are Bullis and GP but has a bad defeat from Sait Mary's who currently sits with a 3-11 record (a team that Landon beat)

We will find out which team is better so we can put this debate to rest in less than 48 hours, and give it a rest until then.

Be happy both programs are playing as it should be a great game for area lax fans.
