Was she the Fox News host? If so, I didn’t realize she’s now the U.S. Attorney prosecuting this case against Mahony.

Makes sense that they’d want a big name celebrity like her in the mix prosecuting Mahony. He’s a former Australian Diplomat. This case has the potential to get big.

Yes. This is literally the perfect case for her to tackle as one of her first - taking down a foreign child predator on U.S soil.

Amazing. She’s a TV celebrity. The media coverage on this case is going to get big.

Any word on what happened at the hearing today?

She's not the prosecuting attorney on the case. Marco Crocetti is - he's a senior assistant US Attorney.

He's in custody until the final disposition of the case (i.e., case is dismissed, charges dismissed, trial is finished, etc).

How do his sweet, innocent kids move on? And how will anyone get justice for THEM if the mom has taken them to Japan? Who advocates for THEM?

Does anyone have insight into the defense counsel’s strategy here? Why withdraw the motion?

To avoid pissing off the judge more than necessary. Australian national, flight risk. Wife and kids already fled the country.

The nature of alleged history of crimes against children would make his release basically impossible.

+1. There was no realistic plan for his release that would adequately address the threat to the community and the fact that he is a flight risk. You also generally get one bite at the apple with this type of motion (you can file multiple requests like Diddy did, but you need to put your best foot forward with the first request because the subsequent requests get less consideration), so you need to have every concern adequately addressed.

Makes sense, but then why file the motion in the first place?

I wonder if the defense has become aware of additional victims, which would make the motion for a release even more unlikely to be granted?

Does anyone know when his wife and children left the country? Did they go to Japan, since the wife is Japanese?
