I'm trying to get out and walk more, so I figured I'd download a book to listen to from iTunes. Listening to a book, though, is so much different than reading one. Which books are entertaining to listen to? Any suggestions? |
I wouldn't use iTunes, but suggest downloading audio books from the Library. Montgomery County uses a App called Overdrive.
Listening is far different than reading. I've found I do better listening to easy-to-read fiction. I just finished listening to Swimsuit, by James Patterson. It's junk reading, but easy to listen to while you are doing other things. I tried a few John Irving novels, but it takes awhile to keep track of all of the characters, plus his novels are really long, better suited for actual reading, IMO. Last month I listened to Little Bee. |
John Grisham novels are great to listen to. |
PG wodenhouse (Jeeves and Wooster series are hilarious). |
I loved listening to Rachel Maddow read her book Drift. |
Librivox has free, in the public domain books. Lots of everything there.
It won't be on Librivox, but I thought The Book Thief was riveting. |
The best book I've listened to was Brideshead Revisited- probably, at least in part, because it was narrated by Jeremy Irons. |
I listen to Audible every evening and love their selection. The Grisham novels are awesome. I'm listening to the Philippa Gregory books right now and they are AMAZING! |
My Antonia, Rocket Boys (Homer Hickam) and the books that come after it. |
+1 |
One that I really enjoyed listening to was Tale of Two Cities. I'd tried several times to read it and couldn't get into it. But when I listened to it I didn't want it to stop. |
I prefer listening to David Sedaris over reading his books simply because his voice, his style, etc makes it great to listen to.
I enjoyed A Dog's Purpose. I don't know if I would have enjoyed the book as much if I read it myself. |
I have never listened to an audio book but if I would pick one it would definitely be a Sedaris book. He's hilarious!

DC also uses Overdrive for free downloading of audio books. Try downloading what you enjoy. With library lending apps it's free so you can checkout a few and see what you enjoy. I have listened to several non-fiction books I never would have read. |
