10 month old- lethargic, no appetite but no fever?

Anonymous
DD has been taken care of by her grandparents up until now. After her 2nd day in her new day-care (in home) DD is very lethargic and has no appetite this morning...she doesn't have a temperature, but she is definitely not herself. Is this just a normal onset of an illness she picked up at the day-care? Also, I've noticed her eyes are red and her face looks puffy when I pick her up from care...not like she has been crying but maybe is allergic to something in the provider's home. How should I approach this with the care provider? Any constructive advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Check with your ped--explain the symptoms and the fact that your daughter just started daycare.

Did she nap well at daycare? The first few weeks adjusting can be rough and very tiring.

Could definitely be allergies. Maybe she's coming down with something.

Do you have time to do an unannounced drop-in visit just to see that everything's in order at daycare?

If you hadn't mentioned the new daycare setting, I was going to guess anemia.

Google ”lethargic.” Call your pediatrician and explain her symptoms and situation. It could be allergies, but you do not want to mess around with true lethargy.

Another vote to call your ped. Ours once said that high fevers on their own concerned her far less than a kid who looks like a wet noodle. The no eating thing would worry me, too. Good luck.

Do you mean lethargic as in acting tired/run down/not like herself or lethargic as in can't hold her own head up/limp like a rag doll? I think that's the difference between waiting it out tp see what happens and taking her to the pediatrician immediately.

OP here. Thanks everyone for the advice and shared concern! By lethargic I meant just not as active and alert as she is in the am. She stayed home with my mom today and mom says she is already much better after her morning nap...I suspect she is just not napping as well in the new environment at daycare. I'm probably just being overly nervous because the daycare thing is new for us. Thanks to everyone again- it's nice to know this support system is here

Just so you know, when we put our DS in a 2 day a week daycare starting at 1 year, he would come home dazed/out of it because he was SO TIRED from all the awesome stimulation! It really is a good thing.

+1000

true lethargy equals ER immediately.
Not 'approaching this with the daycare provider' or any other BS.

So at least call your ped right now!!!
Be as clear as you can in your description.

Best of luck, and hope your little one will be ok!

(If it is just tiredness and puffy eyes, it could be either a lot of crying and exhaustion at the new place, an allergy to something in the new place, or coming down with an infection.)

DS is 10 months and definitely seems more tired after daycare than when he's home. Lots of stimulation, etc. Mondays are tough on him and we generally put him to bed a little early. Give it a couple days and see, though the pop-in idea is always a good idea.

OP, just another voice that you really want know what "lethargic" is so you know it when you see it. It's a hot button symptom.
