SIL possible painkiller abuse?

Anonymous
I was at my brother's house for a dinner party Thursday evening with some mutual friend (3 other couples with kids all the same age; 1 is my husband's coworker). I started my period and needed a tampon desperately, so while I was in the upstairs bathroom I looked under the sink and inside the box of tampons I found a prescription bottle of Hydrocodone that had only 2 pills in in it.

Even weirder was that the name on the bottle was not my brother's or SIL's but of another mutual friend; my husband's coworker's wife.
I thought later that ever since my SIL had her C-section (5 months ago?) that she's had more doctors appointment than I had after giving birth to my DS.

How should I handle this situation? I am concerned about my brother and my SIL and the implications this possible abuse may have for their marriage. DH says to mind my own business. I don't like how his coworker's wife may be sharing her medication illegally.

Not your business. And you are really jumping to a lot of conclusions based on...very little.

if you come to my house, please ask for a tampon, or use toilet paper, rather than rifling through my personal space.

All you know for sure it that you violated boundaries in your brother's house.

Addicts do not place their stash in the cabinet under the sink complete with two pills left. What you found was likely placed there after some guest left it behind.

Please do not ever come to my house. I don't want you finding some old halloween costume or something and deciding we are all serial killers.

You sound kind of nosy, OP. Why is that? Not much going on in your own life?

At any rate, it's rude to make insinuations like that about other people and it's extremely rude for party guests to go through their host's personal belongings.

Wow. You ARE jumping to conclusions. There are so many more indicators of prescription painkillers besides finding a random bottle in the bathroom. Do you know anything about that? Does she display the other signs?

Jumping to conclusions and nosiness aside, everyone needs to understand that prescription drug abuse is a prevalent and serious problem in the US and is quickly outpacing the use of illegal drugs. Wake up.

Well alcoholism is a pretty big problem, too. I suppose it would be o.k. for the OP to ASSume that every guest at that dinner table who had a glass of wine is an alcoholic?

Jump to conclusions much?
