| Is such a thing possible? Our yard has a very gradual slope and it makes me nuts. Alternately any ideas for how to landscape in terms of things to plant. |
| Retaining wall to level. If it is a slight slope grass will work fine, if you want lower maint go with some other ground cover interspersed with low growing juniper. |
| Retaining walls but above the feet requires permitting |
| Just put in a 3' retaining wall (no permit, I think the permit threshold is 40"). Now I have one flat level and one gradually sloped second level ( natural slope maintained to deal with runoff and direct it away from the house). Mine is 50' across with wooden ties and cost $4,500 to excavate, level, backfill, and seed. Love the results. |
| I paid a landscaping company to level my yard. The installed retaining walls to do so. I was very happy with it, the company was great too. |
| Most people think my backyard is unused, but it was beautifully landscaped prior to our purchasing. It has steps down to a large terrace with plants surrounding and a fountain. Then another level down with a few steps and the a final level that we had done by a landscaping company to put in a playground for the kids. |
| 18:59 and 19:01 - can you give details of the landscaping company you used? |
| I'd like to know the name of the companies used, too. |
|
18:59 here. We used hambletons. Really like the end product.

have you used their lawn service |
I tried to but I was too far out of their lawn service area to make it worth it for them, which I completely understand. They did come to do two lawn services while I contacted and got back on the schedule of my old lawn guy. Needless to say, I am/was very happy with hambletons and had them do about $3k worth of landscaping/shrub installation in the Spring after my wall went in last Fall. I will continue to use them for more complex landscaping over my lawn service company. |
Did you deal with David? |
| In fairfax county, all walls taller than 2 feet requires permit and engineering design. You could terrace it 2 feet at a time if you wanted to. |

Question for those that had this done - how did the company compact the dirt for the new grade ? Machine (w/ roller??) or hand tamped?
How much has the new grade settled lower, if at all, since the work was originally done? |
| Do you need to get a permit in Montgomery county MD ( the backyard is a hill and top trees so it's a ugly view, can I fixed) |
