Kindergarten Parent/Teacher Conferences

Anonymous
We recently had our first parent/teacher conference at our new school, and we were surprised by the lack of information. Our prior school gave detailed remarks about the child along with examples of work. This one basically was "Everything's fine. Any questions?" Can you comment on what is normal at other schools, and if you had a particularly informative conference at the K year, can you please say at what school?

We had a fairly informative conference: basically, discussion of strengths and weaknesses, time for questions, etc. The level of detail given was reasonable although not excessive. Not comfortable naming the school, sorry.

Our experience was similar to PP's, but we definitely didn't feel the love, compared to conferences in preschool. Is that part of what you're reacting to, OP?

Our conference was pretty weak, but it was the teacher, not the school. The conference for our older child, when she was in K, was much more informative.

Our conference was for Pre-K. I was surprised by how detailed (lots of percentiles and examples -- and illustrated with pics of DC in action) the teachers were. Despite the big tuition, I still think of Pre-K as being, well, Pre-K. My husband and I were a little flabbergasted.
