Any patients of No. VA OB-Maddox, Berry, Silas etc.

Anonymous
I am a new patient of Northern VA Ob/Gyn Associates and really like the Drs. and staff that I've met so far. I had my first appointment as an OB patient this morning and because of my advanced maternal age, was asking a lot of questions about CVS and Amnio. The Dr. tried to disaude me from CVS, due to risks, and said they send people elsewhere for Amnios. I thought most OB's did their own Amnios?

I just wondered if anyone is a patient of there and perhaps they have a certain philosophy that I am unaware of? I still feel comfortable there but I am definitely having the CVS....

Thank you.

Hi! I am a patient at their practice, also of AMA. My regular OB is Berry, but they rotate you through all of the doctors. He also steered me away from the CVS. I didn't ask a ton of questions, but ended up doing the amnio. It wasn't too bad, just nerve wracking waiting for the results. I saw Dr. Stern at GIVF in Fairfax. As for NOVA OB/GYN, I have been very impressed. I had a bleeding episode over the weekend and Dr. Silas met me at the hospital. Can't say enough for him or the staff at Fair Oaks in making me feel comfortable. I was checked out head to toe, as was the baby, and really felt reassured by the time I left. They are laid back but proactive in their care. I would really trust them with any advice they give.

I've been a patient of theirs for four years now (two healthy pregnancies); Dr. Silas is my preferred OB but I really like all of them. Yes, I had a CVS test with the first pregnancy but didn't with the second one (DD was born in June). My understanding is that there are other tests out there now that are much more advanced, essentially negating the need for a CVS test (the false positive rate is very high, as I found it when I had it done with my first pregnancy, which thereafter warranted the need for me to get an amnio). As for the amnio, yes they have outside practices do amnio tests; I had mine done at GW University Hospital. It was fine, no pain whatsoever, though the waiting period of two weeks was difficult.

If you don't need the CVS test I'd recommend not taking it. Too many false results which really puts alot of stress on the mother and family. I'd listen to what the Dr's say, there's alot that's changed in technology even in the last four years that I've been seeing them.
