Anyone know how much I can expect to pay for an ultrasound for a kitty? Vet is trying to rule out cancer. Never faced this and not sure what to expect in terms of cost.
(PS- Please, No comments about why would you do this for a cat. Not interested. She is part of our family and we want to know what is wrong with her and whether she/her illness can be humanely treated.) |
I am not sure what even the approximate cost would be. I am sorry your kitty has been so sick, and hope that everything works out for her.
I understand what it is like to have a pet, and they do really become a part of the family. It is too late now for you at this point (for this illness), but when we got our dog, we also picked up some health insurance for her through the ASPCA. It won't cover anything pre-existing, but it has already paid for itself. |
Thank you. She is older and so we are not expecting miracles. We just want to know what is wrong and if she can be treated in a way that extends her life in way that her quality of life remains high. |
I had an ultrasound for my kitty at South Paws clinic on Arlington Blvd in Fairfax. It was about 300 dollars once they through in the exam and all. Unfortunately, the sonogram didn't provide any clarity on the diagnosis and we ended up doing more testing. Sadly, our precious cat was too ill and we made the tough decision to enthanize. It's so hard! Sorry you are dealing with this and I think you'll be glad you did all you could for your kitty. |
I believe we paid about $300 for our dog at Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg. It's hard to know the exact cost because at that point in time our dog had a Radiologist, Oncologist and a Surgeon. She's seen more specialists than me. Good news is that she is doing fine now.
I'm sorry your cat is sick and best of luck. |
We recently had a sonogram for our dog at Friendship Animal Hospital, I think the total cost was around 300 - but like some of the PP there were other tests etc involved so that is a ballpark figure. Good luck! |
I hope you kitty gets good results from all of her tests. If she does not however...just want to sent an FYI on hospitalization costs. My 15 year old cat was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure two years ago and was hospitalized for 3 days for blood tests to monitor her kidneys and to receive fluids. The cost for this was over $2000.00. For me, it was worth it because with just a little at home care she has had a happy, normal kitty life for the last two years. I don't regret paying for her care, but I can say that next time her kidney values start to fade I might consider not taking the same route.
I wish you all the best for your little baby. |
We paid $385, plus about $4 more for something like a waste disposal fee, at VRE in Gaithersburg (mentioned above) for an abdominal ultrasound on our cat in the spring of 2006. I hear you, OP. I am the love of my cat's life; she is truly devoted. She's somehow kept me grounded throughout all the baby craziness of the last few years. Oh, and after a dire diagnosis that spring two years ago (from the vet, not the ultrasound people), she continues to be perfectly fine, chugging right along. So, who knows. Good luck to you. |
