If you clean up after your dog, where do you put the poop?

There is nothing more disgusting than the smell of dog poop in a garbage can on a hot summer day. We throw out the poop bags in the trash and the cans are outside but it stinks just walking by the cans. Is there something else we should be doing? I'm considering a diaper genie for dog poop bags!

We have an old diaper pail in our garage. Has worked well so far.

I've been using scented diaper bags and they are better than the old thinner bags I was using. Still stinks, but doesn't knock you over so much.

Sometimes I will open the bag and dump the poop in a toliet, then disinfect the bowl. I can then dispose of the bag rather easily in an outside garbage can.

smaller yard solutions

1. poop in yard-shovel up-sprinkle some lime on poop area
a. put in a designated sunny area [out of the way]
area had cedar mulch and lime - sun and lime dry it up

b. small outdoor can well lined and has lime/cedar mulch. pick up bag with big overhang and tie up for trash

I have a big yard now so I shovel it up and throw it in specific areas

Please also dispose of the waste in your garbage can at home. It's not pleasant to have the smell and sometimes mess of dog waste fermenting all week in the can, particularly when one doesn't have a dog. We live near a place where peo

Cont'd from prior post

...people run their dogs, and one would be amazed how often people will even come into the yard to toss "doggie bags" into the garbage can on the side of the house, instead of walking or driving home to dispose of it.

We have a small metal trash can with a tight fitting cover that is for poop bags. I line it with a scented Glad Force Flex bag (so no worries about rips and leaks).

From what I can see, a lot of people throw it in someone else's trash can. Or just skip picking it up all together.

Seriously. Use a very small trash can with a tight lid for poop. In a big can there is a lot of air that wafts out when the lid is removed and the smaller can helps this. Also, since the can is just for poop, it gets opened less often. On trash day, remove the trash bag from the small can (containing the week's poop) and move it to the big can when you take the can to the curb.

In the nearest trash can.

We bought a tin can with a lid and it does not emit a smeill unless you open in to throw a bag in. Then the night before trash day we put it in a garbage bag.

Pick it up with bags on board bags. The cheap ones let the smell escape. Put it in my kitchen trash can. I take out the kitchen trash every day or every other day. Do not just put it in the can outside. That's disgusting.

(1) I don't think anyone was talking about putting open poop (not contained in a bag) in the trash outside.
(2) I'm pretty sure bagged or not in just about any location outside the home would be less "disgusting" than putting dog shit in your kitchen trash.
