Ok Taissa thank for your contribution to dcurbanmom.

Seriously!

And yet, he has a massive following and is wealthy. So, I will go with “false.”

Like DA, it also had a lot of tidy endings in the season finale. If it does get renewed, and any of the main cast don’t want to return, how do you think Julian Fellowes will kill them off in grandiose style, like Cousin Matthew? I’m betting on a runaway, horse-drawn calliope causing havoc.

The tidy endings weren’t just in the finale. Bertha’s son miraculously got over his broken heart immediately mid-season. We are told if people find out a woman designed the Brooklyn Bridge, no one will cross it. People find out a woman designed it and it’s a non issue. Cynthia Nixon’s husband dies and she’s back with her sister. Many more tidy endings in the finale, but definitely abrupt endings elsewhere throughout the season.

Since when does having a massive following and being wealthy have anything to do with being bright?
He's dumb. Read Belgravia. Absolute drivel.

It did get renewed for a third season.

I realize that even the ugliest young woman would be highly sought after being as rich as Gladys is. So I can appreciate that she’s popular. But it makes no sense that someone with Larry as a sibling would be so homely. The actress playing Carrie Astor looks like she’d fit in to the Russell family, and she’s pleasant to look at. I have no idea what they were thinking casting Gladys. Thousands of decent looking actresses could pull off such a small part.

WTF? Gladys is not homely. I can't believe how mean-spirited this post is. Gladys is a normal looking teenager. You are really totally out of line.

I agree, she is not ugly at all and I don’t get the obsession on this thread - it’s strange! The hair style and makeup are not what would be considered to be flattering in 2023 (same for Marion) but you can easily look past that (or just Google a picture of her in normal 2023 hair and makeup).

Anyway I’m not getting into it - women don’t have to be nice to look at anyway, and they have no obligation to be “pleasant to look at.” this is something we’ve been trying to explain to men for a long time but apparently we haven’t learned it ourselves.

Huh when I saw the name I wondered if she was Vera Farmiga's daughter and she's her younger sister. 21 year age difference, wow.

Agree she's pretty but styled in a silly way. I do think it's on purpose. A lot of the style choices made on the show, but especially by the Russells, are meant to demonstrate wealth. Gladys's hair would be expensive to maintain and require more staff than most people had at the time, to keep those perfect ringlets. Notice most of the other women on the show do updos that are more "set" and thus easier to keep in place. Gladys's hair moves while still being perfectly composed. It would make her stand out as having more resources than other eligible women, even if the precise style looks really childish and unflattering to our eyes.

I looked up Taissa Farmiga and don't think she's attractive. Same with Meryl's daughter.
But that's just my opinion, and you're right, it doesn't matter what they look like.

I disagree. While I don’t think regular people should have an “obligation to be pleasant to look at,” I think actresses and actors should look nice unless they are remarkably talented and even then I think they should look pleasant.

I watch a show like Gilded Age to get an escape from my mundane day to day life and the ordinary looking people in it. I like looking at a guy who looks like Harry Richardson (Larry Russell) as opposed to one who looks like Adam Driver. I see Adams at the gas station, I rarely see Harrys and when I turn on the TV, I want Harry. (And this is off topic, but I do not think Adam Driver is talented enough to take his looks out of the casting equation.)

(I think the actress who plays Gladys looks fine enough, there’s something cute about her, I think her dowdiness is intentional.)

But over all please give me hotties, male and female, on the screen! Please!!! Pretty please!!!

That’s fine! You like what you like. I appreciate seeing an unconventional Adam Driver in a see of celebs who increasingly all look alike due to getting the same procedures and treatments! Either way, I would never allow myself to be outraged on the basis of an actor not conforming with my preferences. That’s the real issue!

I doubt people are really outraged. I think they just long for really good looking actors and actresses, too. (I mean naturally good looking people who haven’t had cosmetic procedures. I certainly could do without the implants, fish lips and hair extensions.)

But I’m not outraged, I just switch the channel when I see Adam Driver or fish lips pop up on screen. Both are too ugly for me to watch. Obviously, Adam and fish lipped actresses have an audience, but I am not part of it.

Show is so corny and fake. Nothing historically accurate about it. Deluded woke garbage.

The actress playing Gladys is nearly 30 years old. Why is a 30 year old actress playing a ~ 15 year old girl?

Gladys is around 20.
In the first season, everyone went on and on about how she should've been "out" already, which would mean over 18.

No, debutante when you’re 15 or 16
