Frozen Blueberries, So Many Frozen Blueberries...

Anonymous
Thanks to generous friends who live in Maine, we are now the pround owners of bags and bags and bags of frozen fresh blueberries. I've made more smoothies than my family would ever care to drink.

Does anyone have any fun recipes that use frozen blueberries? I haven't had much luck using them in baked goods, they tend to get runny (but then, I'm not a great cook either).

thank you!!

Blueberry jam is easy to make. You can freeze it or can it.

Last year I made blueberry basil jam and it was wonderful. I used it for gift baskets all year.

My son's favorite snack is a bowl (a big bowl) of frozen blueberries. Go figure. Try it out, though - your kid/s might like it.

Frozen blueberries are great in summer drinks (water, lemonaide, etc), or tossed on yogurt and cereal. I find them refreshing and an easy way to cool down.

Maybe you can try popcicles? Get some molds at the Container Store, add the frozen fruit and then fill with Sprite or Limeaide.

I LOVE frozen blueberries! You can dip them in greek yogurt and then freeze, too... that's pretty yummy

Summer pudding.

Line a bowl with plastic wrap, then line it with pound cake (basically you are making a pound cake "bowl"). Fill the cavity with bluberries tossed in a little sugar. Make a pound cake lie.

Seal the top with plastic wrap, put something heavy on to weight it down, leave in the fridge overnight.

Blueberry coffee cake, blueberry buckle, blueberry muffins. You can roll the blueberries in flour before adding them to the batter - it helps with the moisture issue. Although there's nothing better than a blueberry coffee cake with blueberry juice oozing out if it.

I also love blueberry and peach pie - peaches are a great complement to blueberries. Just use a couple of peaches (peeled and sliced) in place of some of the blueberries.

great ideas here--yes the little blueberries are the best for pies. You could make mini pies and freeze them.

Also, if you make muffins. Mix up the batter and pour it into the muffin tin, then drop the blueberries in just b/f baking.

In oatmeal is yummy too.

+1 Also best to do this for pancakes too, otherwise you end up with blue pancakes and blue muffins!

I picked several pounds of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries at a pick-your-own farm last August. I froze most of them and used them successfully in crisps, cobblers, ice cream and financiers (a type of teacake) right up until February of this year. Make sure you evacuate the air as well as possible from the freezer bags each time you open them to prevent freezer burn.
