Wheat-free, Sugar-free diet -- s/o

Anonymous
A number of posts I've seen today recommend going wheat and sugar free to lose weight.

For those of you who have done it/ are doing it, I'd love to hear a couple days of what you eat. I'm a healthy eater and at a healthy weight but would like to feel a little "tighter" for summer. BUT, I love cereal, tortillas, anything grain based really (always do whole wheat).

Maybe I'm addicted to carbs -- even tho they're healthy. How do you deal with the cravings and stay strong? I'm not going to cut out breads for my kids so I can't just get them out of the house, which would make it much easier!

Thanks for ideas and advice!

Here is what I've been doing

Breakfast: Eggs and fruit, whatever I have on hand berries, pineapple, watermelon etc.

Lunch: some sort of meat turkey, chicken, beef, about 4 oz. Cut up vegetables 3 of any of the following. Celery, carrots, cucumber, peppers, yellow or green or broccoli or cauliflower. Some days I cut back on the meat and have a bit of peanut butter or almond butter on the celery. If I go out I opt for a large salad with meat or fish.

Dinner- meat, fish or poultry and roasted vegetables and more fruit.

Snack: 1 oz of nuts.

(We have a kitchen scale so I know what an ounce is)

I am good for most meals. I have pizza sometimes and I will eat junk when we go to a Nats game. I also might eat something carby if we order in, but for the most part, I stick to the meats, fruits and veggies.

I was also a dairy fiend but I cut it out for other reasons. I haven't found it to be all that difficult, but maybe that is because I allow myself a cheat here and there. For me carbs are all or nothing. I will eat the whole bag of chips if I start, so it is easier not to start. The same goes with bread and pasta.

OP here -- thanks for the replies. Are there certain cereals that are good and wheat free? Eggs are never going to happen for me on a weekday mornings. Thanks!

Okay, I've been eating crap, but I used to be a ballerina and this is what I'd eat and I felt amazing back then. Need to motivate to get back on track:

AM: HB egg, berries, coffee w/heavy cream
LUNCH: chopped veggies, meat
SNACK: nuts
DINNER: steamed veggies, meat or tofu
DESSERT: 1 oz dark choc & a glass of wine

I do not weigh food, so I cannot tell you "how much".

Breakfast:Two egg omlette with kale, ham, and cheddar
Plain unsweetened yogurt "parfait" with spicy Indian crunchy Junk food/bar food (gluten free) Pistachios
Lunch: Tuna/bean salad filled with all sorts of "Italian type stuff, none of which was mayo.
Fresh Cherries-A LOT
Dinner: Roasted chicken, roasted Brussel sprouts, white rice
Fresh Mango

Yes the cravings go away and sometimes I cave and break my resolve simply because I want to. I do a lot of weight training, so I actually consume quite a lot of calories to fuel my work outs. I have no idea how some posters here survive on what they eat on a daily basis. I'm surprised they are not starving to death.

Oh and for the omlette....I make 4 of them Sunday night and nuke each one in the morning. Fridays I work from home, so I often make myself a big breakfast, including bacon.

No on the cereals...you have to be careful if you go wheat free, you don't want to substitute yet another carb to fill the hole wheat took away. Carbs are the absolute worst thing you can eat in the morning. Save them for Lunch or dinner.

Dancers are notorious for having disordered eating. I'm not sure as a full grown woman, I'd look to a dancer's diet for advice. I know this because I was a model in NYC for 3 years and the overwhelming majority of both groups were in terrible physical shape.
