MIL and weekend phone calls

Anonymous
My MIL is well aware our DC wakes up at 8:30. She is also well aware that today is my only day off this week. I am pregnant and exhausted especially after working all day yesterday. For some reason, she decides to call our house at 7:45 this morning and wake us all up.

What ever happened to not calling people's homes before 9am?

Who the hell keeps track of when other people's children wake up? I will excuse you since you're pregnant right now, but just turn off the ringer and go back to sleep next time.

That's awful. Forget wake up time, she needs to know no calling before 8am! What was her reason?

Better yet, 9am, you are right! Who is going to set her straight?

I've heard of not calling before 8. But really, shut it off and go back to bed!

This is why our phone ringers are off and in the back of the house downstairs.

We just came back from a vacation with her a week ago. We spent the entire week together in a 2 bedroom suite.

I have difficulty getting back to sleep in general once I am awake but pregnant, once I'm up, I have to urinate right away and then have something to eat because I immediately have nausea and hunger pains. Not to mention, once our toddler is up, there is no going back to sleep.

She wanted to know what time she could come over and see our child today.

DH says he will talk to her.

+1000 Best reason: You won't have to pollute your brain with all those thoughts of what unreasonable meanies other people are. Life is so much easier when you assume positive, or at least neutral, intentions.

I have turned off the ringer of our upstairs phone for years now, starting from when newborn DC2 was a terrible sleeper and random phone calls would ruin our attempts to get her (and everybody else) to sleep.

When the phone rings downstairs and I am asleep, I do not hear it.

It's really rude to call someone that early in the morning! I'm a really light sleeper and the phone ringing in another part of the house will wake me up. My MIL used to do this on the weekends and every time I answered the phone, barely conscious, she'd say "Oh! I'm sorry, did I wake you up?" and I'd tell her yes and to please not call until 9 and she didn't stop until I asked DH to tell her. Maybe have your DH talk to her?

Oh my word. She wouldn't have come over today. That is for damn sure.
