How to tell if Fresh Chicken is bad

I bought two packs of Nature's Promise Fresh Chicken Tenderloins yesterday and when I opened them to make dinner they smelled a little. My husband said they were fine but I think they shouldn't smell. Does raw chicken sometimes have a "smell?"
