We'd like to rent a house in the Outer Banks of NC. Do you recommend one area over another? Do you have a rental company to recommend? Thanks!

We rented with Carlolina Designs last summer and had a great experience.
Our house was in Corolla which we preferred because it's not quite as developed as some of the towns closer to the causeway.

I will add a different opinion . We went for the first time last summer. We purposely chose Kill Devil Hills as it is more central in the island. Then during the week, we were able to explore north and south a bit to figure out which area we liked for this upcoming summer.

We used a company called Kitty Dunes www.kittydunes.com
They were great, provided hand soap, tp and paper towels, which was a nice touch.

We've stayed both up by Corolla and down south by Hatteras. I'd stay either in Nags Head or north. Not that the southern part isn't lovely but it adds quite a bit of time to an already long drive and I found that there were not the same rainy day amenities (restaurants, shopping, etc.) as its northern neighbors. We love Duck b/c it's still a quick trip to Nags Head for the "action" (or however much action there actually is in Nags Head) but very quiet and less crowded. Corolla is lovely too and but if you plan on heading south at all, it's just a bit more of a jumping off point.
