I know people must regularly thin out bulbs, separate spreading bushes, etc... where do people take these / what do they do with the left overs?
I am a new homeowner and wonder if I could find any plant swaps for things like this. Occasionally Craigslist lists some individuals offering plants from their garden, but I don't know where else to look. Any ideas? |
| My mom used to swap plants with her coworkers. She got a LOT of new flowers. Do you have any coworkers who garden? |
| My neighborhood listserv is a good source. |
Do you have anything to swap? Or are you just looking for free. I used to give away on freecycle, but people were so rude. I give away on neighborhood listserve. If you join a garden club, they often have swaps. |
| "gardenweb" often does these. |

I'd check with some neighbors; a great way to meet new neighbors, too. Walk around and see if anyone has a nice garden...I love gardening and give away cuttings when I thin out my beds. My neighbors do the same for me.
By the way, I come from a long line of home-grown gardeners/green thumbs; my mother tells me that neighborly swaps were THE way gardens got established. I proudly grow euonymous that I clipped from my grandparents' backyard garden 15 years ago. Although my grandparents died years ago, their plants live on. |
| Google the number for the Master Gardener program for your county (or DC). They often have plant swaps. |
They are having a swap this weekend. Potluck. DC metro area. In MD. Look on the site by region. |
