need advice about sympathy gift

A friend's father just passed away and I sent a wine and chocolate basket. Is this appropriate? I didn't want to send flowers because I'm not sure if she'll be home when they get delivered and I didn't want them to go to waist.

If that's something you know she'll like, then absolutely. My friend's father just died and I sent chocolate chip cookies because she loves them.

Another good idea is to send a gift or a card about two weeks later. Something along the lines of "I'm still thinking of you".

My father passed away over the summer and after all the bouquets died and everyone sorta stopped calling and forgot about you I received a very nice "still thinking of you during your grief" card which totally made my day.
