I had access to something that had all of my colleagues salaries on it and I just got caught looking at a colleague's salary. I tried to pretend like I wasn't but we both know that I was. I'm so embarrassed. Ugh |
That's what you get for being so nosy.
|
I've always worked in govt jobs where pretty much everyone knows what everyone makes. |
OP here. Ok, looking for things to make me feel better, not worse. I already feel terrible. |
I didn't get caught, but I felt terrible after I snooped because I discovered I made so much less than the males in the office. I was really angry for a long time. Still at the job, though. Sigh. |
Keeping salaries secret benefits managers, not employees. We should all be publicizing our salaries as widely as we can, to break down those inequalities that persist from less enlightened times. |
Say nothing. This too shall pass. |
Caught by whom? |
The colleague whose salary I was looking at. |
Thank you. |
OP, so? Spill it! What did you see? |
this times a million. we should be making our salaries public to the most detailed degree like athletes' salaries are. |
I'm curious! Does the colleague make more, less or the same as you?
If I found someone looking at my salary, I don't think I would be that upset. Although I would be very curious about that person's salary. |
He makes more, but has been here longer. I was really just curious about where my salary had the potential to go. He knows how much I make because he was on my hiring committee. But we're really good friends and that's why I'm even more ashamed and embarrassed. |
I guess what I'm most ashamed of is the breach of trust. |
