I have a girl with Down Syndrome and looking for a developmental pediatrician.
Any experience with Dr. Beverly A. Powell in Springfield? If not can anyone recommend someone? |
| Dr. John Farber with ALL Pediatrics |

I too have a daughter with Ds. We see dr. Kozma at Georgetown. I really respect her and she connected us to an excellent PT.
How old is your daughter? |
|
She is 5. We have seen Dr. Kozma and did not like her. Glad to hear that you had a different experience.
Who did she recommend for you? I am curious. Thanks |
| Did not like Dr. Kozma at all! One of the coldest and most uncaring doctors I've ever met. I am shocked that she's still around. I recommend Dr. Eliot Gersch. He is awesome--loves children and is very friendly with the parents, too! 180 degree difference from Kozma. |
| I have a 5 yr old son with Down syndrome. You want to see Dr. Rosenbaum in Genetics at Children's and/or Dr. Capone at Kennedy Krieger in Baltimore. I see both as they each have something unique to offer. Dr. Rosenbaum is great with overseeing total care. Dr. Capone deals with behavior and secondary diagnosis of ADHD. |
| We took my preemie to Kozma. He now is six. I would not recommend her post-infancy. |

I have a DD with Ds and I would NEVER have her seen by Dr. Kozma. We had a horrible experience with her when my older, typical DD was an infant.
For Ds, we see Dr. Rosenbaum and are in the process of getting an apt. with Dr. Capone. There are also a couple of dev. peds at Childrens who might work if you don't want to hike to Baltimore. John Farber is mostly a pediatrician. I'm not sure he does much developmental peds outside of general pediatrics. We've seen him as a general pediatrician and quite liked him. |
| We've had a good experience with Dr. Kozma over 2 visits for my son. I should probably mention that there is no suspicion of autism, just developmental delays. We go to ALL Pediatrics (not Dr. Farber) and they recommended we take my son to a developmental pediatrician and made no mention of having him see Dr. Farber, so I don't think he is a true developmental pediatrician although I see on their website that he did a fellowship at Kennedy-Krieger and has special interests in delay. Dr. Kozma may not be the warmest Dr. I have ever met but I did not see her as rude or alarmist. She answered our questions willingly and considered our parental input in her evaluation (for things she could not easily assess herself during the 1 hour appt). She gave us things to work on with our son, recommended therapy and neuro-genetic screening - we then saw Dr. Zecavati and Dr. Saddeh-Haddad. Dr. Saddeh-Haddad is a geneticist and has been really great. I don't have expoerience with other developmental pediatricians to compare, but I have been satisfied with Georgetown so far. |
| My child has different special needs, but I just wanted to say I agree with the poster who recommends Dr. Rosenbaum in genetics. He is truly exceptional and he genuinely cares about the welfare of his patients. |
