Anti-Anxiety meds - dogs

Anonymous
Does anybody have experience putting their dog on a daily anti-anxiety medication? It's been suggested that this might be an option for our older dog and I'm looking for some first-hand accounts. Did it work or not, did you see a good/negative change in demeanor, was it very costly, etc. The basic story is that we have a 10 year old dog who has what I can only describe as non-aggressive anxiety which has surfaced in the last year or so. We want his last years to be as comfortable as possible and he's clearly becoming increasingly bothered by the bustle of two small children. I'm also interested in whether or not behavioral re-training might be possible, so any alternative suggestions are welcomed.

Highly recommended. Our dog had very acute separation anxiety which was helped a lot by meds.

Friends put their then 9 year old lab on anti anxiety meds after their daughter was born. Four years later he is still on them, but seems to tolerate child well, etc. not sure about cost, but I know it was key to keeping dog + kid happy

There is this coat you can purchase at pet shops and online...I can't remember the name of it, but if you put it on, your dog calms down.

Sounded like a scam to me, but I have a good friend who swears it de-stresses her doggie.

I would give it a shot.
