Which RE will work with me -- I am overweight

Anonymous
I am overweight and TTC and about to make an appt with an RE -- but have read so much on these boards about doctors turning overweight people away. Which doctors will work with me?
I am losing weight successfully and working SO HARD at it every single day. I have more to go, but I would like to see someone now, and I don't want to go to someone who is not willing to work with me. I am in NOVA.

I went to GW - no one said one word about my weight.

I thought Dominion had a BMI cut off of 30?

BMI is 35.
Should I wait until it is lower?
I am 38

A recent thing? Not as of 3 years ago. Didn't say a word about my weight (~30 lbs overweight).

Do not wait! Just find an RE who will work with you. You can ask as you making the appt.

No--don't wait. You will be fine to seek treatment at SG.
(They want it under 40.)

I believe the only real issue will be those prepaid guaranteed cycle packages like Shady Grove offers.

I would not wait until you've have an eval to worry about it - seriously. It will depend on a lot of factors, many more important than weight. Weight CAN be an issue, but isn't always.

They all will work with you. But they will possibly deny you IVF if you are severely overweight.

I 42.5 and very overweight, in the 300lb range and was turned down for IVF and NCIVF by dominion. I spoke to Dr. Gordon. He was nice about it, but still said no.

I worked with CFA (Dr. Abbasi) for 2 years and she said nothing of my weight except that losing some would definitely help. But she did not make it a big deal about it. I ended up getting pregnant naturally after a couple of failed IVF's, and various IUI procedures.

I wouldn't wait. You and your partner can get the work-up/testing and maybe try some IUI's (weight does not matter for IUI). Good Luck.

I am looking to do IUI, not IVF.
So maybe that will help my situation.
Thanks.
