Our 9 year old dog was diagnosed with leukemia last week. It has been fast acting...she has lost a lot of weight and has not been herself. We've been giving her prednisone to help make her more comfortable. Earlier this evening, she must have hurt her leg (she's been having trouble on the hard wood floor the last few days, so best guess she slipped somehow). She's been limping around breathing heavily and chattering her teeth. Just don't know what to do. Without the diagnosis, we would take her to the pet hospital...but knowing she doesn't have much longer, not sure spending so much to fix her leg is worth it. Ugh, but I can't bear the thought of putting her down yet but seeing her in pain is awful. This has all happened so, so fast. She was our first baby. |
I'm so sorry about your pet. I'd probably take her to the emergency vet to see if they can make her more comfortable, to give you more time to come to terms with this. Putting down a beloved pet is really awful, but seeing an animal suffer is awful too. |
+1. So sorry. We had to put our "first baby" down last year. The vet was really good about letting us know when it was time to let go. |
Thanks, PPs. DH just left to take her in. |
I'll be thinking of you and your pup. Folks on DCUM had a lot of kind, comforting and helpful words for me when I struggled with putting down our "first baby" many months ago. I am truly sorry you are going through this. |
She may have thrown a blood clot. Take her in. |
