I NEED YOUR ADVICE!

I am a passionate gourmet cook who wants to start my cooking business as soon as possible. I would like to cater to individuals or families who don't have time cooking and are tired or eating out. I was thinking of being like a private chef who goes to clients and cook weekly or daily meals in their house.

At first, I believed it would be great to deliver meals to houses. However, I do not have a car and I don't want to depend on a driver even though I could find one. So, of course I decided not to follow that idea. I believe it would be better for me to cook in a client's home. I do have a lot to offer because my "food philosophy" is you can travel through food. I cook French, Italian, West African, Asian and other cuisines from around the world.

Do you believe this business idea can work in the DC metro region? Please give me some feedback? Thanks for your consideration.

Of course it would work. This is a wealthy area with plenty of families and high-powered jobs.

Before wading in, I would draw up a business plan--know who your food suppliers would be and hwo much you would need to make to make a profit. Marketing will also be key.

You also figure out you would be getting yourself and supplies to and from clients.

Lastly, you might want to consider working for a catering business or something related to get some relevant experience.

If you are in DC it is not legal to cook anywhere but your client's homes or in a professional kitchen (you'd rent the space).

I think to really figure out if this is plausible you'll need to look into the real legalities and logistics. But yes, it's something people want. I have some friends who do this work.
