salmonella risk?

i peeled a banana this morning before i left for work and ended up not eating it before i walked out the door. it just sat there on the counter all day. my understanding of the peel is that it was intelligently designed to keep the bad stuff out. i don't really have much food in the apartment and i am starving after a long day of grueling public sector work. is it safe to eat? TIA

I wonder if you can boil it like a plantain? Or bake it, to kill risky bacteria?

OP here. that's a great idea. i think i'll put it in a pyrex dish and throw some cheese on top. bananas and cheese is a highly underrated combo, IMHO.

Best wishes and godspeed, bold banana friend. While I bear no responsibility for what happens and whether cooking it will do anything, I might recommend topping it with a sprinkle of nutmeg and brown sugar. Hell, I'll probably buy some bananas tomorrow and do this in a saute pan.

Fruit doesn't spoil that fast. If it were raw meat I'd be worried. Or tuna. But a banana? And bananas are not known to carry salmonella. At least I've never heard of it. The common salmonella carriers are raw chicken and raw eggs. On occasion fruit or veges or cereal are found to be contaminated but that won't happen with a banana that had a peel on it.

If you pray to the creator while you eat it, you will be fine. If you are an atheist, you're out of luck, though.
