Any ideas for a gift for a 50-year-old man? Distant member of the family turning 50 and so I really need to give something, but I don't know him well enough to know his hobbies, likes, etc. Also, the recipient lives out-of-state so I will be ordering online and shipping, if that matters. I don't know him well enough to do anything too time-consuming--I'm hoping to just quickly order something to fulfill the obligation. Many thanks for any ideas!

OP again. Forgot to mention that I do know that he is not into sports and likes to cook and travel.

For stuff like this I always like Harry and David: http://www.harryanddavid.com. Some pears and cheese.
Woodstock candy will do a "retro candy" 50th birthday giftbox (i.e., candy still made but hard to find that a 50 year old would have grown up with).
OP here--thanks so much! Harry and David and the retro candy idea are great ideas!

I am always able to find these types of gifts at Red Envelope - http://www.redenvelope.com/
