| I have an old Timex watch and would like to finally update my watch to calculate mileage. Please recommend your favorite! |
| Garmin. Their support services are great. I like the one with the least bells and whistles. |

I can cautiously recommend Garmin, but they're not perfect. I would not go top-of-the-line - i borrowed my ex's top-of-the-line one and it had so many bells and whistles I got frustrated while running because I tried to stop it and ended up some random screen and couldn't get back to the main screen. This happened several times.
I have had the 201, the 301 and now the 110. I like the 110. It's kind of old-school. Takes awhile to pick up a signal downtown but it's pretty good in the burbs. you can't check your lap paces from the watch afterward, but you can upload them and check them there, along with all sorts of stuff like route and elevation. The website is pretty great. |
| Hands down, Garmin. |

I have a Garmin. Not sure if it's the 310 or 410. There are a lot of bells and whistles, and I don't use many of them. As others have said, you can upload the data to their website, which is great. From the website, you can also compare runs, which I've recently started doing. The first few times, I had trouble signing in to the website - no idea what I was doing wrong. But once I figured out what the "right" process is, it's been easy.
My DH bought the watch for me from Amazon, which was $10 cheaper than the Costco price. It was $150 at Amazon in December. |
| I'm 18:04 and I have a forerunner 110 thats a few years old. Every once in a while it freaks out and I have to reset it but otherwise its been great. However, I;ve noticed the newer model (can't remember what they're calling it) is smaller and lighter and I'm considering switching over though I have trouble justifying it when I have a watch that works. Anyone have the new one and know how it compares to the old forerunner? |

A few years ago I bought a Garmin 305 from someone off Craigslist for just $40. It didn't have the heart rate monitor--which was fine with me because I wouldn't use it anyway. I only use it to calculate time and distance.
Prior to that, I was just looking at my clock before I went on a run and after the run to calculate time. I used runningmap.com or mapmyrun.com to figure out the distance. I tend to run on a lot of wooded trails, though, so that made it difficult and is what finally pushed me to seek out the Garmin. |

Not to hijack this thread- but I wonder if anyone used/uses the Nike+ running app. I have been using it for about 4 months and now all of sudden it's completely bugging out and says I run a 3 minute mile-- it's annoying because I never know what I'm actually running. I don't trust it. Which is the reason I opened this thread , because I am thinking about buying a trusty GPS running watch instead.
Has this happened to anyone else? TIA |
