Incoming Second Lady, Usha Vance, wears a custom noir velvet gown with asymmetric floral accents and a sweetheart neckline for the Vice President’s Dinner.

She looks amazing.

It was custom. Ivanka's dress was amazing too.

+1
I absolutely love the pink coat that Usha wore. Gorgeous color and cut.

Really? I'm one of Usha's biggest fashion haters but that is actually one of her better looks.

I like it too. Flattering color and cut but some interesting details. Her make up is not my favorite but not bad.

She doesn't have good skin, large patches of melasma and very dark undereye circles. She needed better foundation and a brighter lip.

I love her outfit, think it's the bad hair and makeup that make her look a little dowdy.

Way too much product on her hair, which is styled in an unflattering way. Earrings look silly and eye makeup looks messy not polished.

So comical. I bet you're the same poster who criticized her last year for not looking polished enough, not doing her hair (to your specifications, of course), and not wearing enough makeup. She looked great. The one strapless dress was a little ill-fitting up top, but not horrible. All of her other dresses have been on point, as has her hair and makeup.

Do you...do you think there's only one person here who thinks Usha can't style herself properly???

Cool cool cool.

She still needs a tailor.

Her pink coat fit her better than Jill's too big purple one.

Compare to Melania's coat which is clearly impeccably tailored (though also made of a thinner fabric so easier to get a fitted look). I think the pink color is flattering and appropriate and I like the earrings. However they are also oversized and her gloves also look oversized, and then the boots are heavy and wide. The attached scarf looks messy in the way is knotted -- that's how you knot/fold a scarf to walk to the metro on your way to work. It makes the whole thing look like it's hanging off her -- it's wearing her instead of her wearing it.

Nothing special and an odd choice given the indoor setting. I love the color though. JD looks like a schoolboy playing dress up.

I couldn't disagree more with all of the above. She looks lovely and the coat fits her perfectly. It's a COAT, meant to be worn over something. The boots are a cool and interesting choice - no boring pumps. The scarf is supposed to be knotted and tucked that way. It's Oscar de la Renta.

This! It seems like a lot of the women—here’s looking at you Melania and Usha—refused to adjust their outfits once the event was moved indoors… I mean a hat really. She had to air kiss Trump because he couldn’t reach her cheek past the hat, but maybe that was the point lol

The pink coat is pretty, I wish it was more fitted. And also should the scarf be tucked under the belt? I think that looks weird.

I think the problem is she looks like she's playing dress-up and hasn't figured out how to just wear clothes. Like look at Kamala - she looks normal. That's because she wears clothes like this all the time - knows what she's comfortable in, what works for her. Usha is, I guess, new to being in the public eye and so she's like the intern at work whose skirts are either too short and tight or too frumpy or too something, because she does't know just how to buy and wear clothes appropriate for the setting. (I was that intern, long past being an intern.)

Like this coat is pretty, the color is pretty - it's a little too big, she looks uncomfortable, it's the wrong color for a grown woman who is also an accomplished lawyer, etc.

DP. It's a beautiful color for her. Accomplished grown women are allowed to wear pretty, flattering, feminine colors. Michelle Obama wore a pretty yellow to one of her husband's inaugurations. Hillary Clinton wore a bright pink coat to one of Bill's. Usha Vance looks chic, beautiful, and very much like an accomplished grown woman.

Melania wore powder blue at the last one too.

You're right - and I loved that suit too! Beautiful colors.

Usha has styled herself impeccably. I'm so sorry you know this deep down but can't bring yourself to admit it.

Be so for real. I liked the coat today but she's never styled herself "impeccably."

Adjust their outfits with a few days notice. That's not how it works.

Her inaugural ball dress:

It's okay. It's not fashionable but it's inoffensive. A little figure skater-y but that's a standard evening wear look. Her hair looks weird and I think she should have worn it up.

On the subject of her hair, I appreciate that she doesn't dye it -- I have a similar amount of gray and don't dye it either. But it really wouldn't take that much effort to make her hair look smooth and shiny and healthy. Again, I have similar hair and it can easily look as hers does (and often does like that when I'm just dropping off kids at school or going to the beach or something) but it doesn't take that much effort to make it look very nice. And that's just me at home doing a hair mask and giving myself a blowout with some midrange products to keep it smooth. It's what I do if I'm meeting with clients, going to a party, or having my photo taken for something. I'm not getting highlights or having extensions put in or anything -- just putting a little extra time and effort into my hair so it looks nice in a situation where looking particularly professional or photogenic is helpful.

She can do what she wants but it's so weird to me that she wouldn't want to just look a bit more polished. We have the technology!

Anonymous wrote:Is Usha going grey? Why do I get the feeling that women of her culture will be toughest on her?

Her hair looks fine.

Why does every rich white woman assume that all Indian and Indian-American women are the same? And that we're all set in the traditions of a culture that we or our parents left behind?

Many pages ago, I said that Usha was probably getting a lot of hate from Indians. I have no idea why you are talking about our parents. My parents don’t hate on her. I don’t any Indian immigrant who would hate on a double Yale grad lawyer who clerked a Supreme Court judge because her outfits are dowdy and she’s prematurely graying.

Usha is absolutely getting grief from her culture - which is children of Indian immigrants who grew up here.

I don't think you read or understand my post. I didn't say anything about parents other than many people who immigrated from India left their culture behind (that could be you or it could be your parents that did the immigrating). I sure am hating on Usha, but I would hate on her if she was Sarah Vance, too, PP. It has nothing to do with her race.
