Fencing academy recommendations?

My child goes there since 6 months and he loves the coaches and the environment. I find the place safe and coaches to be nice. I’m not sure what few posters have noticed or heard thats negative. I have no complaints.

Who is Dan Graham? A coach at FSA?

A former colleague fences at a place in Springfield, VA academy of Fencing, I think. He gave it very high marks. He competes internationally.

FSA is literally full of weirdos. Some seriously strange people.
I would not take my kids there under any circumstances

My child has been at Fencing Sports Academy for 5 years. She fences epee. It is a wonderful place with terrific coaches, and she is doing well in national tournaments. The coaches are tough but loving and focus on excellent technique. I trust them with my daughter, who probably spends about 15 hours there per week. She loves it.

Dan Graham is NOT an FSA coach. He is the parent of a fencer. I have not seen him at FSA in years. I don't think his son (an amazing foil fencer and really nice kid) fences there anymore.

As for "weird" people, I have no idea what this means. All fencers are weird.

For saber, Capital Fencing Academy is the best program in the area. They're in Rockville.

We are south Asians but my son is interested in competitive fencing. Does he stand a chance, as I see mostly Chinese names (from USA) in the fencers ranking list.

It's hard to have this conversation without sounding racist, (although we're a Korean family that fences) but the Asian immigrant community has always seemed to value individual activities where really hard work can elevate your skills, and pure athleticism might not be as important. When I was young, all the Asian families I knew were really into orchestra instruments. Then we realized that there was more upward mobility, and college interest, in sports.
I've noticed that the Asian community in swimming has increased massively over the last decade or so, and the same is happening in fencing, even more so.

What did he do to get him banned from fencing?

The highly ranked female epeeist to whom people are referring left FSA. I am another parent who advises people to stay far, far away from FSA.

Agree on negative comments on FSA
Some parents have no clue
