At what net worth would you buy a Tesla?

We paid more for our Honda Odyssey.

Given the current gas shortage, I'm happy for options.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why buying a Tesla requires a discussion of net worth at this point.

How much net worth do you need to buy a Honda Odyssey?

This is bizarre.

Lol OK.

Am buying a Model Y now. Have high net worth but not really a factor as the Tesla is less expensive than my last two cars. To correct PPs, you can lease a Tesla now and they offer financing just like buying any other car. Our cost is right around $50K if we buy (not decided yet whether to buy or lease). Looking forward to driving it!

Our Tesla was less expensive than our SUV, but now we drive the Tesla, but not the SUV due to that whole gas shortage thing.

I'm not a big fan of the Teslas. I don't like the jerky regenerative braking and the very different/non-existent instrument panel (too much of a departure from what I know).

I agree about the regenerative braking as well as the stiff sport-style suspension. It makes for a very jerky and bumpy ride that makes me motion sick unless I am driving. It's not for me, but a lot of car enthusiasts really like that sort of feel.

I got a model 3 three years ago and I'm partially agreeing with this. I would probably hedge my bet and have a gas and an EV. Drove around this morning in Vienna to fill up my Odyssey and all the gas stations were out...glad I have the 3.
But for long trip I would take gas car instead of waiting 30-60 minutes for a charge. I predominantly charge at home and can see where an EV is not practically for someone living in a SFH.

Yes! I do! We just bought a mid-range trim Chevy Traverse for $35k to replace our minivan. The Pilot is in that same price range. I was shocked at how many people were recommending we look at Volvo XC90s and similar. $50k for a base model is more than we wanted to spend. We are high income ($750k HHI // $2mm NW), and I'd be surprised if most of those people have the same financial resources we do. As many PPs have said, people value different things!

Either way, we have 3 full size pre-teen and teenagers, so the smaller low-model Teslas wouldn't work for us as a primary family car.

Anonymous wrote:Depends what Tesla model you mean. A model 3 is a 40k car while the roadster is a 200k car. That is a big range. I am not sure my car budget for a Tesla would be very different than my budget for any other car. There is a little more infrastructure for the Tesla, but hopefully that pays for itself.

The funny thing is that when I'm looking at the Tesla driving on the road, I really can't tell if its a 40K or 200K version. They literally all look the same.

Except for the Model X. That's the only one with distinct styling. The rest are just.....there. And sort of all look like identical twins.

I'd never buy a Tesla. Musk + I don't like them.

We own a 2018 Model S P100D, bought it for 135k. It was a showroom car with 3k miles so we got a 15k discount. Paid 5k extra for the full self driving package which now costs 10k. I test drove the car and fell in love. 0 to 60 in 2.3 secs which beats most super cars. We also got free supercharging. Range is 315 miles.

Will be trading it in in 2022 for the Tesla model S Plaid+ with full self driving which will run ~165k. 0 to 60 in 1.9 secs which will beat every super and hypercars except for some 4 million dollar Koenigseggs. Range is 520 miles so worth trading in.

Will also buy the roadster when it comes out.

NW is 10 mil+

People who buy siennas and pilots are screaming loudly that they don’t care what people think Of them. Tesla is the opposite.

Not true. I've been looking at electric vehicles. Teslas go the farthest on a charge. Very few go more than 300 miles on a charge. I like some other makers, but they don't have the same range.
