No you wouldn’t.SCHEV reports that the 75th percentile of enrolled students at VT last fall had a 4.2; median had a 4.0; and bottom 25% had a 3.75. This year the stats will jump even more due to the increase in applications so VT has many more students to pick from. Bear in mind those are stats for the enrolled students. The stats for accepted students is higher because quite a few high stats will turn down VT and go elsewhere. |
Not true. 3.3-3.5 can get into Va Tech except Engineering. Not saying it is slam dunk but DD with 3.2 but 1310 got until VT. |
Weighted. Very different. My 3.35 1390 just got in (not engineering though). |
|
My kid with an unweighted GPA in this range was accepted at Indiana U and University of Minnesota. She chose another OOS public that offered her merit. (She also was offered $19,000/yr from a CTCL school).

What? Recently? |

DD with 3.3 GPA/1290 SAT was accepted to:
VT (not engineering) Pitt Indiana Elon Miami Ohio Denied at: UMD Clemson Tulane Miami |
Especially if you apply ED and demonstrate interest. Not engineering though as most have said. |
Can you tell us how your DS is doing now? (I'm worried that something like this will happen to my DS -- a current 12th grader.) |
Those two are decent reaches for this kid. |
| Fordham too. |
Yes when I graduated in 1997 it seemed anyone could get in!! Lol |
VA Tech - last year |
| Are these weighted or unweighted GPAs being discussed? I'm new to the process so just trying to figure it all out. |
|
Last year DD 3.45, ACT 33 Accepted with Merit Aid:
Oberlin (attends - well half on campus) SMCM - in state Gettysburg CNU |
Not really. Kids on Naviance at my kids school are solidly in the green with a 3.3. |
