Did I just think of a genius baby hack? Scared to try it

OP, I get that a $30 swaddle seems expensive. Is there a reason you can't just use a blanket? I never bought "swaddles" and just used blankets. Receiving blankets when DDs were very small and muslin blankets thereafter.

Buy a second one and then sell them when you’re done to get some money back. Throw it in with whatever laundry could be done that day - small load of towels, your clothes, whatever. But I wouldn’t hand wash and try to use the bottle making machine.

Well, it would be washed before she dried it. So she should also sell something that had poop on it? lol

Why are you, an old person, hanging out on the expectant mother board?

Some of us are just older millennials and love giggling at shit like this.

Yes OP. Great idea.

Sure Susan.

- an older millennial who is more gen x in spirit but who would never add to the steady drumbeat of whiners on all sides disparaging us

It's probably really environmentally unfriendly to use it in this way. Also, it might be a fire hazard. When I was a teen, my sister and I would often discover when getting dressed for a party or social event, that we had spilled something on the shirt that we absolutely had to wear. We would do a little sink wash to get the stain out, then put the shirt in the oven to dry, which was faster than the dryer. We had more than one shirt catch fire. We tried this in the regular oven, the toaster oven, and the microwave, but results were equally bad. What's funny is how we kept doing it because the need to wear that shirt always outweighed the sensible risk that the shirt would catch fire and be gone forever.

I'm not the PP, but you do realize some of us are Gen X, right? I know, I know, how dare I, I'm too old, my children will suffer, someone should have banned my ancient, dusty uterus from reproducing already. But they didn't, and here we are.

Wait until they find out I have a 16 year old AND a newborn. Duty but still in good working order.

Signed,
Not a Susan

I just can't get over making fun of millennial women to a group of...mostly millennial women. Are you really so insecure in your choices you have to bash others? I'd work on that before you have any more kids.

Did your sense of humor depart before or after you got pregnant?

It's a snarky response, but is it bashing? No. (I'm not the PP).

+1. It would dry in no time.

So when LO spits up or poops on it, I hand wash it and lay it out to dry but this takes long. I have a baby brezza bottle sterilizer that has a button for dry only. Is it wishful thinking that I could place this single cotton swaddle in the baby brezza and dry it? It would be so much better than using our giant dryer or waiting hours for air dry.

Sounds like a good idea. You might want to buy a second baby brezza though.

sorry side note - do you find using a bottle sterilizer useful? Wondering if I should buy.

OP here. Enjoyed the snarky comments which may have been well-deserved. it was part desperation, part mom brain and part I'm just always creative and trying to find ways to save money because unlike someone who commented, I am not wealthy. Love the blow drying comment! Swaddle is air drying as I type and I will probably buy another or suck it up and use my giant jalopy of a clothes dryer to dry this tiny little cloth.

For the PP question above, you need some method to sterilize bottle/pump parts. I was duped into thinking I needed baby brezza though I got it used so it was cheap. If you have an instant pot you can use that, though someone cautioned to buy a separate gasket and steaming basket just for the baby because she kept getting infections. Some use microwaveable bags/plastic contraptions and I suppose some have the time and patience to boil in water.

I didn't say you were wealthy, I said the fact that you had a brezza means you can likely afford a second swaddle and I think that is true. And you are clearly familiar with the used baby product market if that is where you got the brezza. You could sell the brezza and use the money to buy a couple extra swaddles! It is just kind of weird problem to be like, 'should I set my house on fire using an expensive baby product incorrectly to avoid having to buy an extra cheap baby product'

Np here, but newsflash, dc is full of 43 year old first time moms. They were enjoying nirvana in flannel when the millennials were watching Sesame Street.

Your idea reminds me of those swimsuit dryers in pool locker rooms. It will rumble out 90% of moisture in like 5 seconds. I have long wished I had one at home to jump start various single damp items.

Now we have an older house with radiators. Sometimes I lay out wet swaddles or other items on them; works great.

Why not post on your neighborhood board that you are in need of swaddles? I'm sure some mom near you has some she can give it away. Same way you found the brezza.

Where do you find neighborhood boards to post on?
