PP here--forgot to mention that I have heard that they will likely be displaced for a month or two. That is the story now. However, construction almost always take longer than projected.

To Poster 03/15/2008 14:45 I am sorry to hear that you got waitlisted. Have you tried any of the other schools? St. Columba's? I believe they take special needs children. I hope you find something.

03/15/2008 14:45 here - thanks yes, we did also apply to St. Columba's but haven't heard yet. I would love to hear of another place for high functioning autistic kids in case he doesn't get in there (as difficult as NCRC from what I've heard).

8:46 here-- we also applied to St. Columba's but haven't heard anything either as of yet. I had been told several weeks ago that they would be mailing letters on the 14th. We live close to the school and didn't receive anything yesterday. Maybe we will all hear tomorrow. Have you heard of anyone (nonsibling) getting into NCRC yet this year?

Double wait list for us -- 1) 2 year old girl applying for 3-day morning spot and 2) 3.5 year old boy applying for 5-day morning spot. Second year we've been waitlisted for the 3.5 year old. Last year I knew 8 or so people who applied and all were waitlisted except one whose child has special needs.

PP I am sorry to hear that you were waitlisted again (we were for the first time). That is so discouraging. I wonder how many spots there were. I would love to know who else is actually getting in. I know a few couples who have attended or do attend. I believe that two of them had been waitlisted the year before being accepted. Not sure about the others. I guess this means that there are no outright rejections and that he "waiting pool" is huge. Do you have other alternatives?

Also wondering exactly how many kids actually got accepted. Wer there actually ANY spots available after siblings, etc? Jut curious. Trying to explain to my husband that it is a real crapshoot - (pardon my language) - he is convinced we did something "wrong".........he doesn't get it.......same with Little Folks and Aidan which we also applied and did not get a spot......

Did you apply to any backups?

2.6 y/o dd was placed in the waiting pool for NCRC - had a hand-written note on the bottom to "hang in there if you can" that they wanted our family, not sure if that matters. Accepted to Aidan Montessori and to School for Friends for am spot.

Will be enrolling at Aidan and releasing School for Friends.

Good luck everyone!

Who else received hand-written notes from NCRC? Just curious. We didn't. Do you think that means they aren't that interested?

We got a little handwritten note too. We loved the school. My child got into several other nice schools, and we'll enroll in one, but I think we might seriously go to NCRC if we were lucky enough to get in sometime down the road.

But it sounds unlikely given all these other responses.

Did ANY new families get in?

Did anyone else get the handwritten notes?

Good luck to everyone. We keep thinking that just maybe some families will decline because of the construction....

No. We didn't get a handwritten note either. Perhaps those who did (if there are others) are really waitlisted and the rest of us got soft rejections.

To the poster who did receive a note--congrats!! Sounds like you did a great job as your child was accepted at fantastic schools. By chance, did you know anyone at NCRC? Just trying to figure out where we went wrong.

Thanks.

We do not really know anyone at the school. I'm not convinced we have any more chance than anyone else though.

I'm curious to know if anyone else got notes. And we're still waiting to hear from a new family that got accepted - sort of amazing!

12:07 OP here.

I am sure you didn't do anything wrong. A lot of this is random and chance - who can predict how a 2 y/o will behave on a given day?

We do not have connections at the school, but we did make it clear that we were open to being active and contributing members of the community (not wealthy, but have some in-kind professional resources that might be helpful). We also have some family diversity (not racial but other). Other than that, it seems evident even at this young age that our dc is likely to be gifted. I don't mean to sound obnoxious, just trying to explain. Dc didn't talk much during the playdate, more watchful, but when dc did talk, it was in complex, compound sentences. Dc also drew - unprompted - a kind of amazing drawing of a person for one of the teachers at the playdate.

Hope that helps.

Best of luck to you!!
