DC Mayor may revise this next Tuesday based on the numbers in the next few days.

I am glad we are reopening. People are tired of this. Goalposts keep moving. We agreed to shelter in place to flatten the curve. Most of us never agreed to shelter in place until a vaccine was found.

exactly. There is no way that Northern VA is going to meet the metrics that they set out. So, the only question is how they are going to spin those metrics to make it look like "it's close enough!"

Fairfax had a big spike today. Loudoun will get the results from their testing blitz back Fri. or Sat. That's going to be a big bump. Then Fairfax Cnty is doing a 2-day testing blitz in Annandale/Falls Church on Sat/Sun -- so those big numbers will be coming back on Mon/Tues of next week.

If DC and MD open up, it will be hard to see how northern VA stays shut. But, based on the increases in cases and hospitalizations, NOVA will not qualify for having 14 days of declining data.

Just curious, did any of the places that recently "opened" have this?

No state met metrics but opened anyway. I wished they would have waited until after Memorial Day - discourage inevitable gatherings.

Well honestly why should nova wait to open to meet metrics no one else did? We have had one of the longest lockdowns in the whole country-schools closed March 14!

The later this gets pushed back, the more people are going to go "rogue" and just do whatever. Set the reopening phases. Follow through with them. Give people benchmarks to follow - don't just leave it unknown.

This is obviously intentional. No specifics means there's no "failing" to achieve something so they can just willy nilly declare they've reached some "benchmark" to move into the next phase.

Everyone I knew was on board-essential trips only, no socializing or play dates etc—from when schools closed all the way up until they announced that we wouldn’t open with the rest of the state and would be opening up at some future time. Then it was like the dam broke.

I don’t know about others, but I play to stay at home even when NOVA reopens. I’m actually more likely to stay home, because we’ve done takeout a couple times but wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that if the restaurant is full of diners.

+1. Everyone was like F that.

Mentally, people can only sustain an "emergency" or "fear" state of mind for so long. If there were bombs dropping, then sure, we'd still maintain a sense of emergency. But, when it doesn't seem directly threatening, like at this very moment, then it's not surprising that after 8 weeks people are like: "enough!"

We all locked down with a day's notice (or less for kids), we ran to the stores for provisions, we learned about viruses and were shocked for those who were dying in crowded hospitals, we were good soldiers and made masks. And now we're just done. Either gov. did what it needed to do or it didn't. I am fortunate that our household is not losing income. But, everyday I have more and more sympathy for people whose businesses are closed or they have been out of a job.

I think we learned as a country that we have an 8 week limit to our patience.

Exactly. People need to do what they need to do.

yeah- this is pretty much how I feel. Up until that point I felt like things were semi predictable. I could 'follow the data' etc. Then when NOVA convinced Northam to keep us locked down, and Northam is setting a criteria for reopening NOVA of when 'local leaders are comfortable???" Yeah- this doesn't work.

I agree. It's only in the last week that I've seen our neighborhood start to loosen up a little bit - local family visiting, small groups of kids playing, neighbors walking together, etc.
