Totally! You think "am I really that much of a basic bitch that I just want to go to Paris"? Turns out, yup. Does not disappoint. I don't care how cheesy the Eiffel lights are, they just kind of take your breath away.

Universal Orlando- express pass puts Disney’s crappy FastPass to shame.

100% agreed. Two awesome cities- interesting and varied neighborhoods, great food, tons of things to do with and without kids. But definitely time of year dependent!

For a family, the one that really blew me away and defied my (high!) expectations was a dude ranch week at the CM ranch in Wyoming. Extended on the front end and did Jackson Hole, amazing experience that we will never forget. Totally recommend.

Sri Lanka.

Sure, the bad things were true (traffic!) but it was way more interesting than I thought.

Agreed- I get the feeling the French Alps aren't nearly as popular in the summer (understandably), nor as the Swiss Alps. But you get French food!

I posted this in a discussion last week, but mine is the Annecy region.

Incredible in the summer to swim in warm water surrounded by 7000 foot mountains. Watching people paraglide off the mountains over the lake, and then the next day driving up the mountain (a common Tour de France climbing stage), and watching the same paragliders as they took off.

We went to Annecy last spring and it was amazing! Such a quaint little town. The Venice of the Alps, no? We rented a boat one day and went out on the lake and it is was breathtaking...and cheap!

Adding to the chorus of those saying Paris. I was cynical and expecting a tourist trap but I just immediately fell in love. I am dying to go back.

Edinburgh. I've always been intrigued by Scotland and could never articulate why. When we finally went last fall I was blown away. It is so enchanting. Amazing architecture, great history and literature, good food, good scotch, lovely cashmere. Love love loved it. Can't wait to go back and add in a few days in the Highlands.

I said it on the other thread but I felt like I could easily live in Rome

Santorini. I was warned about the heat, the crowds, the tour buses. We chose to stay at a resort on a quiet end of the island, and I think we got really lucky - no real crowds when we did the more touristy sights like Oia. It was truly magical and I wish more people could experience Santorini the way we did.

Yep. Of all the places we've visited in Europe, I was the least excited for Paris. Trite! I said in my own pretentious head.

It's the only place I'll keep going back to forever.

The combo of incredible history around every corner and a vibrant city. Nothing like it.
