Long-term subs

Anonymous
It's impossible to find subs for a couple of reasons. First, the pay is too low. A lot of friends who used to do it stopped b/c it wasn't worth the hassle. Second, because the jobs are left open, when you pick up a job, it's not uncommon for the coordinator to switch you or have you cover more than one class and not ever give you more than a 20 minute break. Third, there are a lot more behavior issues and lack of support, so it makes that day dreadful (not want you want when you have a sub shortage). My school is lucky enough to have 1 person in-house to cover rooms, but we need about 3 of them. He is being run ragged and he doesn't get paid nearly what I do. I asked if he'd ever do a lLT assignment and he said never b/c the pay isn't much better and he'd have to grade, have conferences, etc. I totally understand.
