I know two teachers that make $110 and several who make 90. Are you in DCPS? Are the teachers in your school newer teachers? |
| I teach in another major city. I make over 100K a year. And my pension, when I retire with 34 years in at age 56(in two more years), will 75% of my final salary for the rest of my life. It's a very good salary with awesome vacation time. I also work with an extremely difficult student population and I earn every penny. I have PTSD from my job, diagnosed. I go to therapy and take medication. But yes, I do make a lot of money. |
The only teachers I know who make that much have worked in dcps for a long time, or earned it when Rhee was around and giving out those bonuses!!! I don't see or hear of any new hires making anywhere near that much for the past 5 years. |
I’ve been teaching 13 years, my 5th in DCPS. My first year in DCPS I made $72k, currently at $95k without bonuses. I really don’t understand the people denying the high salaries. Click on the link and look up teachers at your kid’s school. |
Wrong! A teacher who was hired in 2016 is making over $80K a year. She was a new teacher.

Umm, right. Salaries are based on years of service (and education level), so you have to be an experienced teacher to make the higher amounts. Nobody can come in above a step 10 (ie nine years of service credit) per the WTU contract. |
