Bruises on buttocks/upper hip area

Has no one here ever sat on a toy accidentally? That hurts! The accusatory replies here are weird. My kids have hurt themselves in the most random ways.

She said she sat on the couch. Didn’t flop or go flying into it.

still. how does it reach the hip area if her kid sat on it?

Maybe she already had a bruise and the computer charger hurt her because of preexisting tenderness. My kids often have weird bruises too. DS bit DD and she had a huge bite mark bruise at ballet. I felt a little awkward about it, but knew it was unlikely anyone would think it came from some one over the age of 3. I do think about that because as a teacher, I know people working with children are trained to have a radar for signs of abuse. If I noticed something a little off, I’d flag it and keep eyes peeled, but also use my brain and know it was probably nothing. Random butt bruises would be less concerning than deep grab marks on an arm or a black eye, for example. I like to ask parenting questions on Reddit now, FWIW.

You guys are nuts. I hope you’re happy that this crap makes parenting much more unpleasant for the rest of us.

Well OP, you have your answer. At least half the people are going to think it was something untoward. FWIW I knew what you were talking about immediately and I’m pretty sure I’ve been bruised in a similar manner.

Can you keep her home for the week? Hopefully it looks better next week.

I wouldn't think there's anything particularly awry with a kid with a bruise on them, unless I heard *that* story to go with the bruise.

Did you read the thread? People are calling OP a liar and a child abuser. I wouldn’t want to take the risk. Would you?

When I was a kid, my foot slipped on a magazine and I fell on the corner of a book. I had this corner shaped bruise on my butt for weeks. I feel like weird accidents happen all the time.

Notice the recent flurry of posts that passive-aggressively imply abuse? It’s clear that there is a self righteous and active contingent of fellow parents who seem to thoroughly enjoy manufacturing juicy gossip about other families. Why wouldn’t a thoughtful and aware parent be a little paranoid?

Yep. Notice how they are starting to flock around like body-snatchers/ Any minute someone is going to decide this needs to be reported.

Sorry, no, this is insane. You cannot call CPS on someone because their child has a small bruise on their hip. Most people aren’t child abusers. Unless other things are off about this parent and family no normal person is going to suspect child abuse.

This! The bruise in itself, whatever, I'm not really even in the habit of checking out kids' bruises while at swim class. But it's the overly detailed story to go with it...why feel the need for a story at all? Why is OP paranoid that someone is going to ask about her kid's random hip bruise?
