Hanna Andersson changed their return policy

I was very shocked at how much their quality had gone down hill when I was the store a few months ago shopping for a gift.

Both of my girls, now in their teens, wore tons of HA pieces. Well, technically, my oldest DD wore the items, they were handed down to my niece, and then given back to me by my SIL for my youngest DD. One dress that was a favorite of my oldest DD was probably washed 100 times before it made its way back for my youngest DD, who also adored it. THAT is quality! Paying $50 for a dress that could last 3 kids and 4+ years is worth it. Paying the price for some of those pieces in the stores now is crazy.

The one piece overall that I was looking at on the rack had a busted seam. A couple of the tees on the rack had random strings hanging.

I agree that their quality has gone down. The PJs I purchased 5-6 years ago for my eldest (and worn by 3 kids) are in great shape to be handed down to a niece/nephew. The new stuff I've purchased in the past year or two (worn by one kid) is in worse shape than the older garments.

Not OP but once a kid wears something it's used. You think it's acceptable to pay for a child's shirt that starts falling apart after three washes??? Really?

They changed their policy because they started selling cheaply made garments that smart consumers returned when they fell apart.

It's a shame. I will be going to Old Navy,too, I suppose.

That is the issue with buying ahead. The policy is reasonable.

I can't speak to a change in quality but I think a lot of stores are sick of people buying a year ahead, then it does not fit or the kid does not like it, expect to return it for full price when it can really no longer be sold. Something has to pay for that higher prices or lower quality.

Good. This HA cult is ridiculous. Guess what- there’s no such thing as “hand me down quality”. You think people who don’t pay $75 for a slip don’t hand things down? Of course they do. We have plenty of hand me down Cat and Jack, Gymboree, Children’s Place etc. Our closet is full of hand me down pajamas. If your clothing is falling apart after a few washes, don’t hang your hat on a good return policy- shop elsewhere.

My child is almost 4, so I have only been buying at Hanna for 4 years. I have noticed a marked difference in the clothing now from 4 years ago. Some items are still the same great quality, may other things are just not holding up as well. I buy pajamas huge so that I can get lots of wear out of them. Right now DC is wearing pjs in size 4(100) that I bought 2 years ago. Those PJs are in the same or better condition than the brand NEW pajamas I've gotten this year. 2 full years of heavy washing and drying wear pajamas looking newer and nicer than the brand new pairs.

I agree! If you buy a tank for summer and it starts falling apart that summer, you can return it, no problem.

If you buy a season or a year ahead, and it falls apart? Oh well...

Are you a troll? have you ever purchased HA clothing? Their message was that these clothes can be passed down. High quality that doesn't fall apart, seams falling apart, etc.

If you're paying $65 for a cotton slip and it falls apart after 2 washes, their former policy was that they would take it back. so when you're paying that amount, you know it will last or they will refund the $$.

Now - I am not paying $65 for that same slip, knowing that it isn't well made and probably won't last.

NP. If you're paying $65 for a cotton slip for a child, you've got bigger problems than return policies. Just sayin'.

why? if it can be worn by multiple children bc it's supposed to wash and wear like new, year after year. Instead of going cheap Amazon that ends up in a landfill after 2 years.

A $65 DRESS, sure. A $65 SLIP? Are you kidding? By nature, it's flimsy. It's a SLIP. It's an undergarment. It's not meant to be passed down by six cousins.

Right but most businesses can't support that. They are moving towards the norm. Stop stocking up and then returning things, and instead buy only what you need. Honestly I do that most of the time anyhow because sizing is never perfect, kids grow, and tastes change.

Target allows a 90 day return window, so I'll throw another vote in for their clothes. We've had good quality for most Cat and Jack stuff in the last few years.

Cat and Jack clothes are cute and affordable but the quality is poor. My DD gets holes in her leggings every single time! I buy them anyway because they are cheap and accept that they are just not long lasting.

Good to know about HA’s new policy. I was just sorting new items that I want to return but I guess I’m keeping them now!

I used to buy their train appliqué shirts every year for my nephews for Christmas— they have one (but only one) every year, but they have been out of stock with this years since it went on sale— I keep checking back and it’s still not in stock.

I will be sad if they go under, but the inventory problems are not a good sign

I’m wondering if we are talking about the same store because we haven’t had any problems with my DS’s clothes. He wears almost all Hanna except for athletic clothes because it holds up so well and at the end of a pant season theirs are the only ones without knee holes. Maybe girls clothes aren’t as sturdy which would be rotten. If Hanna went out of business I would be at a real loss for where to shop for him.

Did the original owner sell?

+1. You assume the risk when you buy things for the next season. You are getting a great deal, can’t have it both ways.
