If DC wants to cut traffic congestion to Eaton, then don’t expand the school, lower the OOB cap every year and encourage kids to walk or bike to school. |

55 to 60 percent of Eaton students don’t love on the boundary area. |
I don’t think that the reason that Eaton can’t compete with Janney and Murch is because of parking! |
Eaton’s neighbors want the parking problem solved and have had it with the illegal sharing of residential parking passes with favored Eaton staff. That “fix” won’t last much longer, and the lack of staff parking will become even more acute. |
When is the next planned community meeting? |
Eaton may be a DCPS school in Ward 3 but it’s not really a Ward 3 school. That’s why CM Cheh won’t use her political capital to get more money for things like parking, the way she did with schools that educate the children of more of her constituents. |
Nope. Less than 40% OOB. |
40 percent is still a lot for a neighborhood school, and means a lot of vehicle trips. |
So let's get DCPS to "right size" the school through the renovation. They could adjust the number down, scale down the renovation (preserve the playground) and make it more of a neighborhood school. And this would help with overcrowding at Wilson down the line. Parents would not resist. But of course, logic is not part of the DCPS equation. |
As someone who drives past Eaton every day at rush hour (morning) I have no idea what the problem is --- unless this is a parking problem and not a traffic problem.
Sure traffic is slow past the school, as it should be, but it isn't slower than on CT ave. Drop off happens during morning rush hour so there is more congestion for a short period of time. 8:15-8:45. Sometimes the back up can be to Porter but 99% of the time it really is only the block before Eaton. So this is really just a parking problem. Traffic/congestion is just a red herring. |

Eaton’s neighbors want the parking problem solved and have had it with the illegal sharing of residential parking passes with favored Eaton staff. That “fix” won’t last much longer, and the lack of staff parking will become even more acute. Untrue that the practice of using RPP is illegal. This was the solution Eaton was told to use by Mary Cheh's office and DDOT. What is true is that the Eaton community agrees that this is flimsy solution. Eaton would like the same consideration given to Murch, Janney and other Ward 3 schools. |
Why is Eaton getting renovated now anyway? They are much lower on the priority list than some of the other schools pending renovation. Maybe Eaton should be deferred until proper funds can be identified in the right priority. |
Drop off is along Lowell (with cars on 33rd Pl), so you don’t see it. Only a crazy parent would drop off on busy 34th St. The latter may be slow at morning rush hour but at other times of the day, speeding traffic can be a safety concern. |
You must be new here. DCPS actually wants to expand enrollment (though not as much as they wanted at first) to maintain a lot of lottery spots at Eaton. |
