How is your child being disturbed by someone taping the class/performance?

I dont get this either.

Especially if they're in a separate area/on the other side of a window/on the sideline? I take occasional pictures of my kid at her activities (probably like 2-3/session max) unless they have a policy against it and my kid doesn't even notice.

Well, I don't. The same way your child doesn't at school. If I go to a dance class, I would not be surprised that someone would tape the performance, however. Because that is what dance is -- PERFORMING FOR OTHER PEOPLE.

I rarely take vidaeo and am not on Facebook, but I don’t get the concern here if my kid happens to be in the background of someone’s elses photo or video?

OP needs to work on her issues.

Exactly, the kids learn in class. The performance is the perfected piece for consumption. Not the class. You can't film a NYCBT class you purchase a copy of the performance.

Idk Op can find another studio if it bothers her that much. Our studio doesn’t allow parents in the class generally except for about 2x a year there is a special class that parents are allowed to watch and every single parent is filming then.

Do you take video of their classroom at school? I see it as the same thing. Schools ask for a photo release. If the parent does not sign the release, none should be taking images in that particular environment. Dsnce school, etc. Should be no different.

Anonymous wrote:Sorry this is a vent. It seems like every activity we go to some parent is taking video of the game/class. It's weird. I don't want my kid on your feed. I really don't want to be on your feed. Just stop. One lady at dance class was even live streaming her 5 year olds class. This isn't a public space it is a private facility. What on earth makes her think she has permission to do that? You wouldn't take video at soul cycle. Why here?
It always seems so distracting to the kids and coaches too. No one wants to be filmed learning something new. Why do that to kids? I get a once in awhile quick capture for memories sake. But the constant nature of what I am seeing lately makes me uncomfortable.

So it's OK for you, but no one else? I see...

Weird interpretation of OP’s comment. Sound a like she doesn’t begrudge other parents the occasional video but doesn’t want it going on all the time. If it’s occasional, you can move your kid out of the frame, but who wants to constantly have to do that?

OP writes " some parent".. so it is an occasional but it's just different parent every time and OP is one of the parents.
The cameras can go very close and not film the other kids. I'm sure nobody really wants to film your kid. They are their for their kids.

You need to calm down. I have videos of my dance recitals from the 90s. This isnt a new thing, and if they are uploading to social media and not tagging you/location/your kid, why do you care?

If it doesn't get posted to facebook or instagram, did it even happen?!?!? How will everyone know what an active and awesome parent you are?!

It's all harmless until it's not. That Dad from Silver Stars was just another parent until he was busted with bathroom video. Would you want him to have any access to photos or videos of your kids in gynmastics wear, or during class, or really at all? I wonder what Silver Stars policy is not that they have gone through a rough situation and handled it very well.

You're in a public place. Don't be paranoid.

Is a private facility public?

A dude filming children changing in the bathroom is not even remotely the same as taking video of your preschoolers ballet performance.

Look, if you think everyone with a cell phone is a child pornographer looking for their next victim, then I would suggest classes of any kind aren't right for your child.

I would really just like people to stop holding their fraking iPad and phones over their head at every performance and event making it so I can’t focus on watching my own kid. I totally understand wanting to get a short clip, but if you are going to film the whole thing, sit in the back!
