My newly 9 year old asked for one from Target last summer. It was his favorite shirt and he fought hard to wear it for picture day in the Fall. He’s tried to have it make an appearance again recently. Not my favorite style, but he says he runs faster in it. |
Also, that's a really rude and classist term that minimizes the real impact of domestic violence. This style of undershirt was worn by many working class men for decades. Just because one actor wore one in one movie in which he played a domestic abuser should not be used to impugn many honest hard-working men who wore them. Also, see Paul Newman wearing one in The Sting: |
What does your DS want to wear? My oldest is 8 and has very strong opinions about his clothes so I let him choose whatever he wants as long as it's appropriate and not too ridiculously priced. FWIW my DH hates tanks on boys and says they are always awful. My DS doesn't wear them but I would let him if that's what he really wanted because it's not about what others think. |
I actually think the sport ones look cute on scrawny little ones but I don’t encourage wearing them because of the lack of sun protection. |
We were talking about athletic sleeveless shirts with the millennials at work yesterday. A man was saying how he wears them all the time, especially to work out. I’m an old mom so I’m apparently very out of style. What do I know? The topic of sleeveless clothes at work came up, not this post. |
No no no. Tank tops on boys are so trashy looking. |
LOL! |
nope. |
So girls and women can wear tank tops bitt boys and men can't? With how hot and humid as it gets here?????
So silly. That green nike tank looks great! Maybe you say on camp days no because of sunscreen, but on the weekend when you are there to apply the sunscreen every 3 hours, why not? |
My six year old will be wearing some tank tops this summer. I'm probably going to pick up a few from Gymboree since we don't have much athletic gear right now. They can be more comfortable when it is hot. We are not poor. |
To each his own. It doesn't matter what color they are, they look trashy to me. The only boys I see wearing them are basketball players (their uniforms) and the poor kids. |
My kid wont wear tank tops but for branded stuff, go to marshals, tj maxx and the like. It’s all my son wears. |
Lots of boys in our neighbourhood wear sleeveless shirts in the summer...so you are saying you'd judge them to be trashy without knowing any more about them? How about taking the time to know people before judging silly things like young boys' clothing. This thread is such stark contrast to the thread about the little boy the same age who died at school this week. People, don't judge little kids and what they wear. Celebrate who they are and be grateful each day we can give them hugs. |
I think it is an age issue. As in, DCUM is too old. My kids like to be covered up, but there are plenty of boys / teens around here who wear them. These weren't cool when I was growing up, but I see them now. I liken it to when bell-bottoms had made come back. Never thought that those would leave the 60s/70s and happen again in my lifetime. Kids into basketball tend to wear them more. BTW to the poster who made the association with Great Falls, you made me laugh. My friend's son who lives in tanks resides there. I guess, he isn't the only one of the "poors" there! ![]() |
My 8 yo wore them when he was younger. He doesn’t have any right now & hasn’t asked. His little sister now wears the old ones he outgrew. |
