A big part of the puzzle is whether you are a Virginia resident and what your family's financial situation is like and what you intend to study. If your folks are loaded and $73k per year isn't a big deal, then maybe Vanderbilt. If you are in-state and your $73k a year is tough on your family (and say you have siblings planning to go to college as well), then UVA Echols makes a whole lot of sense as a value proposition.

I think they are talking about Duke, which OP did mention as a possibility. Duke is now $73K.

Vandy in a landslide. EVERYONE at Vandy will be super smart and accomplished. Lot's of smart kids at UVA too, but some percentage of the class will be knuckle-draggers from the southwest part of the state.

Do we need to pull out the enrollment map by county to show you again that some counties in the south and west of Virginia send no students to UVA whereas Fairfax sends 656?
