You are very right. Thank you. |
while you aren't suppose to count calories on whole 30 the reality is that to lose weight you need to count calories. Sure eating this way means you typically eat less calories, but that may not necessarily be the case. I find it easier to eat low calorie when I eat paleo because the protein and veggies are more filling, but i am still hungry at time because any way you cut it 1300-1400 cal/day is just not that much food, even when it's clean food. It's totally possible to eat 2000+ calories eating this way if you eat too many nuts, fats, or potatoes.
Try counting counting calories for what you have been eating to get an idea of where you are. |
I would do calorie counting (with a scale, measurements important) and a healthy but well rounded diet--like the mediterranean diet. Something easily sustainable when youve lost the weight. that still means cutting way down on sugar and refined carbs, but doesn't cut things out completely. |
Honestly, OP, I am also surprised. Even if you're not specifically counting calories, completing eliminating alcohol, sweets, bread, pasta, rice, and dairy usually means a hefty calorie cut for most people. Especially if you have 50+ lbs to lose. I've done the W30 twice, and lost between 9 and 14 lbs both time, without counting calories. (49 years old, female, and hypothyroid, so it is very hard for me to lose weight.)
I would try at least tracking calories to see how many you're taking in, because that doesn't seem right. Good luck. |
Not doing whole 30 but today id day 26 of my diet. I have eliminated all alcohol, sweets and eating out. Eating mostly low carb, high protein but not counting calories. I never have eaten breakfast so I am essentially doing the 16:8 IF. Have been exercising 4-5 days a week.
Down 12.5 lbs is the good news. The bad news is I still have 25-30 to go and those will not come off as easily. |
Thank you. That was my thought also. I thought for sure I'd lose something. I haven't been eating a lot of nuts, nut butter, avocados, potatoes, etc. I have felt hungry. It has felt like a diet, although the meals are delicious. I thought I'd at least lose a couple pounds of bloat! |
OP here.
I have cut substantial calories from my diet. I am not eating lara bars and nut butters and nuts. I have felt hungry and it feels like a diet. I'm not sure how I could possibly eat LESS and still function. I would be starving. I know hav 50 pounds to lose and hunger will be a part of it, but I don't know how to eat less and still function. |
OP, try the (free) Whole 30 forums online. I did W30 last year and found my jeans getting tight midway through, so I posted my specific situation (age, activity level, and typical menu). The mods were very helpful. For me, the issue was too many nuts and too much nut butter, plus snacks. Just way too many calories. But if your situation is different, they may be able to identify what is going on.
I felt really, really great and slept like a rock...but I didn't transition the way they said you should. If you finish the program, I suggest you pay attention to the transition period. |
This is true. However, and I know this isn’t the point pp was making, if you’re really doing whole 30, you’re not supposed to substitute foods that aren’t allowed with modified foods that are allowed. It’s sex with your pants on. It’s still cheating. Almond flour pancakes is another example. |
There is some combo of macros that will work for you. Everyone is different. Some people can still binge eat on keto. Some people need carbs or they'll pass out. Keep trying. |
There’s a difference between combining compliant ingredients to mimic a non compliant food (ie pancakes or muffins). But just eating a vegetable in a small form is compliant. Now if you love love love regular rice, one should not eat diced cailflower, but technically it is a compliant food. |
Yeah PP is wromg. Cauliflower rice is not SWYPO. It’s really good for you, for starters, and hardly a treat or replacement food. I don’t even like rice or cauliflower rice but I ate it this round for the health benefits. |
Same for me. OP, have you been weighing yourself every day during the 30 days? I did (I know, I know) and noticed my weight fluctuated throughout but by the end I had lost weight. Also, although I didn't lose many pounds, I measured myself before and after and had lost inches. I've also stuck with it - but not as strict - for months after and feel much better. Good luck! |
No I have not. I stepped on the scale on day 24 for the first time because I really thought I had lost weight. I'm just scared. If I didn't lose 1 pound after cutting so many calories and exercising, what will it take to lose 50 pounds?!? |
Probably a combination of calorie counting and watching your ratio of carbs and fat. Whole 30 allows for plenty of fat but doesn't ban fruit or sweet potatoes--you combine those plus fatty meats, and you won't lose weight unless you are very active and/or male. The stereotype of a Whole 30 person is a twenty-something Crossfitter. Those people are torching calories. I'm the PP who suggested the online forums. Try posting your question there, and I'll bet you'll get some good suggestions. |
