I agree with this. I can't stand the way Horizon tastes. I'll pay the extra 30 cents to get a better tasting and better quality product. We stick with Organic Valley or Stoneyfield. Another brand I find around here is Natural by Nature. It's from Pennsylvania. Tastes quite good and isn't ultra-pasteurized. Goes bad quicker though, for that reason. |
In the cornucopia studies it's interesting to see how many mass retailers refused to participate, including Nature's Promise. However, WF's 365 organic brand does get a high rating on organics, so we try to stick to that. That said, if I need milk and I can't get to WF, I'll still lean towards any organic brand over non-organic. |
SOME frozen products at Whole Foods are grown in China, however if you read the label you know which ones - they say either MADE IN USA or MADE IN CHINA - or PRODUCT OF CHINA - however they word it. And veggies at Whole Foods list where they are from - usually local to the US. If you're smart enough to READ you are smart enough to figure out where your food is coming from. |
OMFG, they are NOT made in China - read the labels. There are SOME frozen veggies grown in China - nothing fresh. |
I just checked my Method products and the ingredients are indeed listed. What am I missing? |
OMFG - learn to read, dufus. Nothing in that list was fresh. And it was prefaced with "sometimes." And yes, I did read the labels. That's how I know that they are *sometimes* made in China, even when you buy them from Whole Foods. Also, this is an old thread. Don't you have anything better to do? |
Why does Horizon milk smell so bad? The non-organic milk my parents buy doesn't smell like that. |
I bought Nature's Promise Organic Chocolate Soymilk and it's DELICIOUS. It's vegan and no lactose. The ingredients are organic soymilk, organice cane sugar, organice cocoa, calcium carbonate, sea salt, organic vanillar flavor, carrageena, vitamin A palmitat, and vitamin D2. It all seem pretty healthy to me. So I suggest Nature's Promise and even if it's from a mass chain store, everyday local farmers work for them so it's all good.
Also what is the deal with everyone criticizing China? I actually found that very insulting because after I lived in China for a year before college, and China isn't all unhealthy and heavily-industrialized as the mass media says it is. The people are extremely friendly to me even if I was a Caucasian foreigner, and I learned a lot from the wise elders living in the villages. I got to say, the village I lived in was a small local area, and everyone grew their own food. There was no such thing as 'organic' because EVERYTHING was organic! Incredible! The air was fresh and the Chinese are good hard working people, and even if they are poor they live happy lives. Even when I went in the cities people were environmentally aware and healthy. So i don't know what's the big deal with things imported from China. |
I actually read somewhere in a report that (was looking the link to post here but can't find it sorry) that Horizon uses only a percentage of organic products in its milk production, and that their cows aren't kept in the best conditions. I was turned off by that. Based on that report I switched to Stony Field which uses 100% organic products. The rule of thumb is; If a product has the USDA symbol it must be 100% organic else they can't use it. Indeed, companies are using the "organic" label to mislead consumers even though not all the ingredients are organic. I also purchase Organic Eggs from Pete and Gerry's, Natures Promise ORGANIC CAGE FREE EGGS, Organic bread and fruits/veggies as much as I can. I got to say: wholefoods website and print coupons, or visit the companies websites where they sometimes have coupons. I would watch FOOD, INC to get a really good insight on Organic food/practices. Hope this helps Lorena |
I don't buy into the organic religion, but I am very critical of the corporations dominating agriculture in the U.S. (Monsanto, meat producers, etc).
I do not buy organic milk but I get it from local farms through a brand sold by Stop&Shop. It seems to last longer and have a higher quality. Some places still have dairy service where you get the glass bottles on your doorstep from a local farm! FYI Cage Free does not mean free range. Chickens can still live in a big metal shed, they just have platforms instead of cages. It's better but if you pick free range over that go for it. Also, buying local eggs extends their shelf life dramatically! |
FYI: Nature's Promise is a China-based company. I've been buying the milk, pasta, and organic teas. What a disappointment! I DO NOT TRUST anything "organic" from China. |
Say no to Chinese food products or you'll be ingesting lead or asbestos. I'd trust Mexican drug cartel sponsored foods than cost cutting communist sponsored bok choy from China. |
lol. is that baked goods? |
Cornucopia is a shill group for Organic Valley. Take their "reports" with a grain of salt. |
