My family and I came from Russia in 1994. Neither of my parents had money or education and spoke very little English. I was in grade school and my brother and I started school without knowing a word of English. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment with another Russian family. I remember being hungry a lot. Both of my parents worked two jobs - sometimes dropping my brother and I off at the library because they couldn't afford a sitter.
My father now own a company that employs 12 Americans and gives them benefits. My mother is a preschool teacher. I am a pediatrician and my brother is in medical school now. We are the family this bill would turn away. |

Just the opposite. Steven Miller could barely disguise his racist views. And his claim that because one has to speak English to naturalize, immigrants seeking green cards should have to speak English too a was bullshit argument, and he knows it. Immigrants learn English here. "Ahistorical" my ass. Afactual is more like it. Miller is a faux intellectual mean-spirited jerk. Trump only hires the best people ! |

That's not entirely true. Both Canada and Australia allow elderly parents to immigrate, which this bill does not. |

perhaps. did you come here as refugees? there will still be 50k of those here. in any case, your parents did well but you are not all that special. i am an immigrant, too. my husband and are very productive, skilled members of society, but, let's be honest, it's not like it would be a devastating loss for the USA if we were not here. |

Jim Acosta asked questions and Steven Miller said he "made statements" and "made accusations" and said Acosta was "advocating things." The right wingers will pick up on what Miller did and say the lefty NYT is saying X, Y, and Z when they did no such thing--Miller was repeatedly and openly putting words in his mouth. On camera, in a room full of reporters. I mean, if you are going to lie about your interactions with reporters, you probably shouldn't have those interactions in a room full of people with notebooks and recorders. |
