Well, I didn't start solids with either of my kids until 6 months and meat wasn't a first food anyway. By the time we got to meats around 7/8 months, yes, my daycare absolutely fed my child the soft shredded chicken I sent in, along with the pulled pork, sausage, etc. My second child is a carnivore through and through and would eat meat to the exclusion of all other food if I let him. I've also had 2 daycare kids so I am well familiar with them moving kids along, I fully credit the daycare with my first being toilet trained at 2 and have high hopes that my second will follow suit in a month or two as he nears 2. |
I just haven't found this to be true. At least at our daycare, each infant teacher has 3 infants. They can't physically feed 3 infants at the same time. So one teacher sits two infants in the low to the ground "high" chairs with the little tables and puts the food out/spoon feeds/whatever depending on what the parents sent in for the kids. So my kid might have bananas and chicken while the baby sitting next to him has puffs and sweet potatoes. The other kids are napping and or playing with the other teacher. There was no schedule in the infant room, the babies napped on demand and ate at around the times the parents indicated on the daily sheets dependent on the baby being awake at the right time. Now, the toddler room and up are definitely schedule oriented. |
| I used to be an infant teacher and a center director, and encouraging self-feeding with soft chunks is absolutely par for the course. It might not be known as BLW by everyone. With my own son, we just said, "offer him whatever you're serving for the day and see what he does." |

From my POV the sooner child can get the food into their own mouth the better.
If I think something might be a choking hazard I will not give it to the child. I do not care what the parents want. They can do it on their own time or hire a nanny. Most of the parents I have worked with might be considered overly cautious on this front, so it's never been much of an issue. All of the babies have been well fed, happy, and messy. |
Are you a SAHM or do you actually send your kid to a daycare? My daycare does cater to my baby's needs. She's picky about food and gets what she wants to eat. All the babies are eating different foods. My baby likes to eat pouches the most. She likes to suck them down in 2 minutes. She doesn't let a spoon near her mouth though. |
