Marion was a racist, corrupt, incomptent fool, even in his first term. He turned DC into a laughingstock. Tony Williams was a big factor in saving the city. |
Not true. He was not incompetent his first term. Are you from DC? I don't think so. Yes, he did turn the city into a laughing stock, but he didn't start out that way. |
He was neither incompetent, nor a fool. He did stay in politics far longer than he should have. Much like so many other politicians. BTW, it was Marion Barry who lured Tony Williams to DC to become the CFO. |
| Why not a white person for a change |
I grew up here in the late 70s/early 80s. Barry won with support WOTP and the Post endorsement, but within a year or two his incompetence was showing and was also when he pivoted to being a race-baiting populist. |
DC native here old enough to remember. This is correct. "Even in his first term" PP is FOS. |
Do you mean like Tommy Wells, Jack Evans, David Catania, or Carole Schwartz, all of whom ran last time? In fact, did you even pay attention last time? Do you even live in DC? |
| Two most likely serious opponents to Bowser are Gray and AG Karl Racine. |

Anthony Williams was the last great mayor that we've had. He was able to help meet the needs of many disparate groups. For example, he understood that you can't force residents into under performing neighborhood schools while also trying to improve these neighborhood schools. Both DCPCS and DCPS benefitted.
Now we have Bowser cutting funding to charters to try to force residents into these under performing schools, approving the crazy soccer stadium funding that Gray introduced, cutting DBH funding for mental health clinicians in schools, and is more pro-business than pro-resident in the more urban parts of DC. Catania would have been great for DC, but most blacks will vote for the black candidate even if it's not in their own best interest. I think it would be a long time before we ever have another white mayor. It would be great if we could get another Tony Williams type to run against Bowser. |
So good of you to speak for most Black people. I doubt if you even have an honest relationship with a Black person to speak for just that one person. Talk about racist baiting, PP you are that person. |
Exactly. I'm black and most of my "black" friends voted for Catania. A lot of people knew that they could continue to make money under Bowser - and that definitely included white people. As a matter of fact, even though Catania won Ward 3, Bowser won the parts of Ward 4 that are WOTP. |
